"The attorney representing adult-film star Stormy Daniels in her lawsuit against President Trump sought legal funding from major Democratic operatives, according to The New York Times.
Michael Avenatti reportedly appealed to a top operative for liberal donor David Brock's web of progressive nonprofits and super PACs, though the millionaire was dissuaded by the attorney's TV-centric approach to the case.
Daniels's lawyer reached out to American Bridge, a Brock-founded super PAC that reportedly spent large sums on former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign."
Putting aside the interesting legal questions as to whether President Trump's position immunizes him from claims such as these, the premise that candidate Trump calling his private-citizen accuser a liar is not actionable because it is mere "political speech" is reprehensible.
USSC ruled in Clinton v Jones that a sitting President is not immune to civil suits, not even temporarily while he's in office, even for matters of a personal nature, and even of acts that were not committed while he was office. Bad ruling IMO, but that's the one they reached.
