There is no common ground between freedom loving people and socialists.
That isn't true. I suspect that you consider me a socialist, and that we disagree about almost everything, right down to how one defines a "real" Christian.

But...a few weeks ago, we agreed quite wholeheartedly about a young mother who was breastfeeding her child. Do you remember? That one small moment made me see you differently - you became more real to me, and we spoke kindly to one another - and want to argue with you a bit less.

Sometimes we have to start with the little things.

They have a significantly different view of what the country should be and there is a vast gulf between them and the conservative side.

it will get worse before it gets better
There is a "vast gulf" between "progressives" and our Founders. They hate the Constitution, and they hate Liberty and individualism.

The States created the Federal Government, but limited it's power. The powers delegated to the Federal government are "few and defined" our Framers said. What the "progressives" want is an all powerful federal government, run by so-called "experts."

The States were given power over the Federal Government. Not the other way around. Congress was given more power than any branch, because it is closest to the people and the States. The Judicial branch was given the least power, because our Framers feared rule by judges.

I've been impressed by the many Republicans and Conservatives who have spoken out against Trump. Not enough of them, and unfortunately not enough of the ones in Congress who are willing to pay more than lip service to ideas like not increasing the deficit. But there have been plenty of them who I now respect much more than I did before.

That doesn't mean I agree with them on policy but I think they sincerely believe in their positions, and they are far more consistent than someone who claims he's draining the swamp but fills his administration with even more Goldman Sachs alumni than ever before, and who says he's going to be hurt by this tax bill when we all know that's a lie (and of course, he won't release his taxes to prove his claim).

Hey, I'll even give a shout out to my neighboring GOP Congressman Mike Coffman - I pretty much never agree with him, but I'll give him credit for being on the right side of Net Neutrality.

Excuse me, but the country is definitely moving backwards when you consider the rise in hate crimes, the hostility toward the traditional free press, the move to undercut or kill off any environmental progress, etc.

All of these things are the legacy of 0bama.

Racial division was promoted by 0bama in a big way.

Left wing bias was further encouraged in the so called "free press" by having a friendly administration in the White House..

Environmental regulation designed to stifle business, and force small business out due to the high cost of regulation, licenses, etc. (already well underway since the Clinton years) continued at an accelerated pace.
The war on coal, refusing to build the pipeline, etc.

The Country is starting to move forward again. It could be going better if it didn't meet so much resistance from the communist nay sayers on the left.
