Trump and the GOP will trade votes out of places like CA, NY and Mass for votes in Wisconsin, OH, PA every day of the week.
Wisconsin (and Michigan and Texas) are in the top ten for property taxes in the country. Not sure the GOP helped their case in Wisconsin with this tax plan.
But here is the thing for me, an independent who voted for Trump. I hate income taxes, I wish there were no income taxes for anybody. But you see, there are these things called the budget deficit and the government debt. The US government owes a huge amount of money to creditors, that is a huge bill being left to our children and grandchildren.
So that is why cutting taxes at this time becomes very iffy. Now I can see an argument for cutting some corporate taxes because it might make the USA more competitive and help the economy. And I can also see that cutting taxes for working and middle class people can help because they can really use the money.
But that is not the same for cutting taxes for the super wealthy and cutting the inheritance tax.
Because of the last mentioned tax cuts, I am begining to wonder if that the Republicans truly are just the party of the rich and just playing the middle class for votes like the Democrats do. This is the danger that Republicans took by cutting taxes to the wealthy and corporations at the same time. That Independents and moderates might see the tax cuts as primarily gifts to the rich.
SO that is why two things are going to determine whether this tax cut is seen as good or bad by the next election. One, the devil is going to be in the details and will the truth get out given the biased nature of the media? Two, will it really help the economy the way the Republicans say it will?
Democrats are the party of the the rich. The GOP is the party of the middle class and small business and have a slight lead over the Dems in representing the poor.
There are a number of reasons why the rich tend to support the Democrats. The Dems are also the party of Big Government. Big organizations that overwhelmingly support the Democrats, look to the favors BG offers them and the mega-rich are often in a position to benefit from big govt programs. A little subsidy here, a loan guarantee there, tax breaks for following the will of the social engineers – it all adds up.
Dems are the party that demagogues class warfare rhetoric. By supporting the left, people feel redeemed for their greed, misdeeds, and lack of personal consideration for those with less. They are hailed as saviors of the oppressed, and if they treat those same people with condescension, why, it is all washed away by their support for the “enlightened” policies of the left.
Most nursing home care is paid for by Medicaid. By all means, go throw those old people out on the street.
Actually, the way it works is if you are poor the govt (tax payer) foots the bill. If your middle class, worked and saved money, you'll have to spend your money to pay, then you'll also be forced to sell your house and use the proceeds to pay your NH bill.
So you are now in a the NH and your roommate is poor, they get everything paid for by the tax payer while you the tax payer, who's working, paying their way and paying taxes all your life first has to make yourself poor (you lose it all) before get help.

So while I don't agree with cutting Medicaid, I do agree with cutting welfare for able bodied welfare recipients forcing them to work instead and paying into instead of taking out of the system most of their lives.
