Companies are smart passing out bonuses. However, a one time bonus doesn't go far. What employees really need is an increase in wages. Now, that would be worth cheering.
So, the extra money each month in your pay check, you'll be sending it to the treasury?
Obviously not, but I'd gladly forfeit it to undo the tax bill. I'll be keeping it because I'll sure as hell need it as we descend deeper into oligarchy.
Before you or anyone else starts more of this threads $1K is about $19.23 per week, which is not a huge amount of money, *and* these bonuses are taxed as income.
It sounds all very nice and makes some of you sing praises to His Orangeness or whatever but bonuses are one shot deals. If any of these companies truly wanted to make a difference in their employees lives they'd give actual *raises* in pay. That is what this so called tax reform was meant to do IIRC.
My company gives out Christmas bonuses yearly, however the raise is done on the yearly basis on the month you were hired....so for those who are complaining about raises, think about it...really...think...

Pay increases should happen but will take time to realize the money and get it distributed as earned.

Have "thought" about it and no, it still makes no sense to harp on how great small one time bonuses are versus even a small increase in wages.
Yes, performance bases salary increases are normally done as part of an annual report for most non-union employees. But this is something different, and there is no reason why companies cannot give a small across the board wage increase *now* to employees. After all their taxes dropped to 21% effective 1 January 2018 tax year.
A $1000 bonus in exchange for $10,000 in lost bargaining power annually due to Republican policies. Sounds like a deal to me!
OMG!!! I'm calling the airlines corporate offices right now and tell them NOT to give their employees anything! I mean...bargaining power!!!! What were they thinking??? I hope the employees landlord will take a check bsed on that bargaining power to pay their rent...
it's cute how you think it will lead to cheaper tickets...
