Because the timing of the hush payment to Daniels looks very much like it was a campaign donation from Cohen ....
on anderson cooper, cohen's lawyer ( yes, the lawyer has a lawyer in this fiasco ), david schwartz, was trying to explain how it's just coincidence that cohen picked that moment ( instead of any other going back to 2006 ) and had nothing to do with the election.

Daniel's lawyer Michael Avenatii is a pitbull. He won't rest until Trump is destroyed. He has been making the media rounds today for sure. Hitting a bully between the nose legally! Good for him.

schwartz kept referring to it as "legal extortion" but couldn't back it up when cooper pointed out that it was cohen who approached daniels representatives with the deal.
it also gave avenatti a great opportunity for a slam (paraphrasing): "OK! everybody who hasn't slept with donald trump, call mr cohen or schwartz, say you've slept with donald trump and they'll give you $130,000.00 ..... no questions asked!"
