They are working on the ability to have the robot warm up to body temperature, so very likely some sort of circulatory system will be required - so it might as well be designed to sound like a human heartbeat.
BTW: One idea I have not yet heard discussed in relation to robots: I know that systems have been developed to grow and store genetically-matched organs for transplant (thus avoiding having to wait months or years for a proper match from human organ donation). I suppose a robot could have a few harvestable organs inside.
