Hopefully this general idea will become the basis for most legal issues relating to sex robots. But, realistically, sex robots will be more complicated than simple sex toys, and we already know that some people will become extremely attached to them, emotionally. (Some people already get attached to their Real Dolls, so adding AI and functional movement...it's not hard to tell where some aspects of humanoid robots will lead, but probably impossible to predict all of the implications.)

Emotional and physical support will be a major category of use for home robots - nursing assistants for elderly and disabled people, etc. Making these home-health-aid assistants "sexy" would just add another level to their functionality. BTW, the movie Robot & Frank is a fairly realistic portrayal of what domestic robots will be like in the near future, and the types of emotional attachment that can develop. (And Frank's robot isn't even a sexy one.)
Will they be classified as emotional support robots, ...
Yes, I'm sure that will happen within just a few years. Of course we already have AI-driven robot pets, so I'm sure that line of development will continue as well, but perhaps with additional plot twists.
How long before the left starts a #metoo movement for 'bots? Insists that people be allowed to marry robots? And demand that bakers must bake a cake that celebrates that marriage?
That's just creepy as hell. I'd prefer something with a heartbeat thankyou.
Maybe it's an option!
