I am not for it, Galenwoof. It is just to creepy. Blow up sex dolls are creepy, but this is real creepy.
What mind set of a person would have sex with a robot?
If they would clean my kitchen for me, make me dinner, do my laundry, wash my car for me, clean the cat box... I could see spending 15 or so minutes with them. Might even buy them some jewelry from time to time.
Combined with some basic VR, we are looking at the first stages of what will be the entire purpose for holodecks.
And if the individual can afford the technology and wants to purchase it, good for them. Have to check back on sales figures after about 5 years to see how morally degenerate we have become, but I'd be willing to bet that if we can remove the cultural stigma around every other sexual topic, banging away at sex robots will be ho hum boring in a short time and sales could actually be pretty impressive.
What of the women who have been buying sex toys for the last few decades? Are they as equally at fault for the degeneracy?
Is it ok when they do it?
No need to engage in sexual activity with a man when you have a fake dick at home?
No risk for STD
No risk for pregnancy
No having to deal with a dudes wants/needs/desires/attitude/chitty personality
That's okay though...
But when a guy makes a sex toy... and it simulates a woman... Now its chaotic and the end of the world because their toys are bigger and better?
Absolutely no comparison. Male sex toys are and have been readily available, like female sex toys. They are all just mechanical "things" for simple use.
But this is simulating a live human being, even talking and communicating. Women are not demanding this kind of realism, these men want an entire fake woman. They will be branded as losers, even more than they are now and I feel sorry for them.
Sounds weird, but why do you call them 'prostitutes' when people buy them to own? They are sex toys.
As I said in an earlier post, they will initially be expensive (probably equivalent to buying a new car?), so it will be more realistic for most people to rent rather than buy for probably a decade, or so. Although, if domestic robots become multi-talented fast enough (e.g., doing domestic chores of all sorts, helping kids with homework, walking the dog, etc.), then people may be willing to buy them, in which case sex functionality could be just an upgrade feature. But, even then I suspect that robot prostitution will still occur.
Overall, I suspect that robot rental will become a big part of the economy for at least a few years (similar to that way that, for a decade or so, VCR and DVD rental stores could be found on practically every city block). In this case, these will be multi-functional domestic assistants but, for a few extra bucks, you can get one that has full sexual functionality as well. So the term "robot prostitution" is a bit "tongue in cheek" but also fairly accurate.

Not so sure about that. Compared to hooking up with some of today's women that don pink p*ssy hats and vagina costumes and throw temper tantrums, having a robot GF looks perfectly normal in comparison.

Thing is, as I already mentioned, we have come a really long way with tolerance for deviant sexual behavior. By "deviant" I mean "deviates from an established/accepted norm or standard" and pass no moral judgment.
So it will be with men hooking up with Cherry 2000. What is currently unacceptable and icky will become tolerated, then accepted and eventually endorsed and celebrated. Look at pornography's ubiquity and overall acceptance in modern society if you need any proof on how far we have come with saying "whatever" to the sexual behaviors of our neighbors.
But I think we are still a decade away from the sort of AI we see in the TV series Humans. (Not counting the part about giving them "consciousness" - which is a rather silly aspect of the TV series, realistically speaking.) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humans_(TV_series)
Keeping in mind that sex robots (including robot prostitutes) will be an increasing wide-scale reality within a year or two: I'm curious to know what people think of this. What types of legislation would you support or oppose with regard to sexuality involving robots? Do you think the overall impact on society will be positive or negative? (I'm thinking we can all agree that it will be a "mixed bag" of opportunities and problems, but I'm wondering if, overall, this is something that people will try to encourage, discourage, or simply "let the free market simply take us wherever the profits lead").
On a personal level, would you favor a judgmental attitude toward people who might want to use this product (i.e., promote social pressure to discourage people from feeling comfortable with sexy robots), or would you advocate for a more supportive "Nothing wrong with that" sort of attitude? In other words, do you hope society will try to shame people, or instead, treat this as just another sort of sexual diversity?
BTW: For a more technology-based discussion with lots of links to advancements in robotics, etc., showing the current state of affairs with robotics and AI in general, you might want to take a look at this thread that has been around for a couple of years: //www.city-data.com/forum/scien...xy-robots.html
There is a fictional series on AMC that parallels some of the issues society would run into with Synths. It's called Humans and is actually pretty good.
Not so sure about that. Compared to hooking up with some of today's women that don pink p*ssy hats and vagina costumes and throw temper tantrums, having a robot GF looks perfectly normal in comparison.
So don't hook up with crazy feminists. The vast majority of women don't attend those marches. Those robots do not look normal, that is part of the problem. Real women don't look like those dolls without plastic surgery.
People need to stop picking each other apart is a big part of it. Expectations are ridiculous. Too much fake internet and porn and fantasy stuff dividing humans apart, not in our best interests.
I voted for it to be seen as a shameful perversion for sick people.
