Each state should pay for their own infrastructure. So let states decide how to pay for it.
Not really practical especially if it's a project that needs to be coordinated among many states where the beneficiaries are not the state it's being built in. Nebraska probably doesn't really need most of the 780 miles of I-80 that goes through it but NYC , San Fran and many other areas that it connects are very much interested in it.
I totally support this. Road construction and repair should be paid for entirely from gas and vehicle registration taxes. It should not be funded from the general budget.
Thnak you, President Trump!
It should have been paid for by the giveaway of money to billionaires for unnecessary "tax cuts". Trump is looting America.
Just like car drivers pay for their use of freeways?
My contributions to the state and feds includes the following:
Fuel taxes part of which are used for mass transit.
Sales tax on the vehicle which could rival the fuel tax if it's bought and sold three times.
License Fee, Registration fee, title transfer fee...
If I park my car in Philly at public parking half the money is equally split between the city and school district.
Then there is $25 speeding ticket that morphs into $150 after all the fees are added on.
Those are some of the things I directly contribute, of course there are others. Indirectly there is the tax revenue from the parts store, garage, dealerships, car manufactures, oil companies and all of their employees.
The fact is when I drive my car there is an enormous revenue stream that is directly and indirectly created by my activity. Other than a fare that does not cover costs in many cases and a $9 hamburger that cost Amtrak $16 to make what is the rider of that train contributing?
As I previously posted I'll be happy to use a formula where I'm going to pay all of the costs that are incurred by me but everyone else regardless of the transportation system they are using will also be required to do the same.

I support it too, so long as it happens at the state level.
No reason why states can’t take care of their own infrastructure.
The trucking industry is estimated to drive 140 billion miles a year
A single semi drives about 45,000 miles
Average transfer truck gets about 6 miles to the gallon.
That is about 23 billion gallons of gas
Twenty five cents to the gallon is almost 6 billion dollars of added cost to trucking
Gas purchases cost about $3000 a year for a family car. obviously this can fluctuate. A 25% increase is $750.
Depending on your family size, number of cars, what you buy (food, durable goods, every thing is delivered by tuck and they will increase prices that you will pay) a 25 cent per gallon increase in gas could easily cost you over $1000 a year.
If you live in the average 'tax zone' of Trumps tax cut, you saved $1182 in taxes.
For Christ's sake man, you just figured that out? That's what all governments do. Smoke and mirrors. It's been going on forever.
