They have enabled with the help of politicians and the media to get Americans to see themselves as Conservatives or Liberals, to see the other side as their worst enemies and that no compromise can be reached on any issue. That is better to side with foreign powers than deal with fellow Americans.
You can easily see this on every single thread on this board and on any other site like Facebook, Twitter etc. every single issue devolves into a Liberal vs Conservative rock throwing and name calling. Nothing gets resolved other than getting both sides leaving with stronger affirmation that the other side is pure evil and must be destroyed.
Meanwhile our foreign enemies sit back, fan the fires and wait for our self destruction.
Will we be smart enough to come to an understanding? Right now it looks hopeless with those in government more interested in their Parties remaining or taking power than what is good for the country.

No not this thread. It doesn’t serve their purpose. Much better to create many threads each one atttacking Liberals or Conservatives in their titles, so that they can go at it. Just read the titles of the rest of the threads in this board.

So true. People from early times were tribal as a means of self-protection and survival. That's symbolically reflected in contemporary times in things as simple as choosing a sports team and rabidly supporting them to the point of irrational and violent behavior. Easy to exploit those blindly and uninsightfully given to that type behavior.
This forum is symbolic of that tribalishness . I still visit to see what the narrative for the latest Trumptastrophe is. But, I realized that the confirmed rabidity and cultish irrationality, denial, etc. of Trumpers is beyond the pale. It's okay to jump into the fray occasionally but not to reside there. Much healthier away, out in the real world.
Most of those I know geographically near me are and have been ardently anti-Trump. But, I have relatives and acquaintances in other states who wouldn't have voted for Hillary. Some for something as simple as she is a woman and we have never had a woman president. Others for her perceived policy positions. And some because of some outlandish, incredible stories circulated not just by Russians but by the political gossip network. They are not dyed-in-the-wool Trumpers, they just hoped for action/support on their issues of concern. Most now have come to accept that Trump is a trouble magnet and isn't going to do much. But, they still hope.
Interestingly, when we (most of whom care for each other) discuss individual issues instead of choosing teams, we find some path to common ground. Most aren't so much focused on being "right" as seeing betterment in their own lives without violating their own ethical standards. Kinda refreshing as those standards are often absent in anomalous, die-hard, winning-is-all Trumpers on this board and in the RW media.
Social media can be a good means of sharing/connecting for many, but having seen the outrageous, highly inflammatory things that can go like lightening from the most suspect and dysfunctional, agenda-driven sources, it is also a blight. People busy working, raising and participating in families don't always have the time or inclination to filter or research what they see and hear. Easy to foment trouble in that fertile, often unsophisticated and easily accessible breeding ground.
Real, healthy, intelligent and caring human connections matter. Avoid the confirmed hard-hearts and wackos. Work toward common ground with those who genuninely and decently yearn for better.

How so? The OP said he wanted Americans to compromise with each other for the better of the country. I offered a compromise. Stop bringing in and amnestying foreign sourced counter voters and counter culture and then Americans can began to compromise.
However, I think the OP failed to identify who they are. Behind our elected politicians we have their appointees who are elitists, zionists, etc., who manage control by manipulating the front people, Trump, etc., like a puppet dangling from strings. These are the elites who own and operate the news media with scripted news in order to keep the masses under control and do their bidding.
The enemy is winning, but who are the real enemy. They are warmongers who profit from wars. (Almost $5 trillion from Iraq and Afghanistan alone). They are corporations especially like big pharma who profit from outrageously priced drugs for the terminally ill and addicting our children, as well as adults.
While they have citizens focusing on racism, women rights, and school shootings they pass legislation that gradually has taken away our freedoms. They point and falsely accuse and while we watch their right hand they steal with their left.

No, you didn't. You said "accept these policy positions then we can have a debate." That's not compromise. That's an ultimatum. You'll let us return to being a republic when we do as you ask. This is antithetical to republican values, rather or not you choose to accept that as true.
