They are a right wing party if you look at politics through a international lens. The differences between democrats and republicans are fairly minor aside from a few social issues. Democrats in any other country would be right wing. Granted most Americans are fairly politically illiterate for lack of a better term coupled with the media being owned by a few oligarchs you have a recipe for the United States having two right wing parties.

I think both the far left and right wings in the US are militant; this country IS a land of extremes, after all. Almost nothing is handled with a moderate, common-sense approach on either end of the political spectrum.

But if you think the more reasonable left in the US is "socialist, communist, Marxist," then you don't know the meaning of those terms. As other posters have said, both the Republicans and Democrats are owned and controlled by corporate interests, and the US doesn't even come close to being "communist."

On the flipside, on other certain issues particularly social issues my position sees me labeled as a LWNJ by right wing types. Neither end of the spectrum can see a middle road. If one doesn't toe a hard and fast line you're painted with one or another broad brush. To a left winger Independent means right wing, to a right winger it's left wing.

That's not even an imagined phenomenon.
Agreed.

This is so true. Just like armchair warriors who are all gung-ho on military and defense, just so long as THEY are not the ones who have to go into combat to "defend our "freedoms," bogus libertarians totally get on my wick.

You forgot Independent. That is different than Moderate, as Moderate would most likely align with either the Left or the Right. I align with neither. I am an Independent.

I voted Libertarian/ far right but I wouldn't use the "far right" lable to describe myself.

More of a Libertarian leaning, non religious Conservative

Fair enough if I could edit the poll I would put Libertarian as conservative minimal state and I would add a fascist option.
