A New Jersey community college is investigating why a professor shouted the F-word at a student in an incident that was caught on camera. The student identifies as politically conservative, and the incident has sparked complaints about the college as a liberal atmosphere where alternative political viewpoints are not tolerated.

During a Sociology 105, Intercultural Communication class Wednesday, Brookdale Community College professor Howard Finkelstein grew angry with his student, Christopher Lyle, shouted "f--- your life," and pounded his hand on a table, according to video obtained by NJ Advance Media.

The incident, recorded on another student's cell phone, came after Lyle insisted both men and women can be victims of sexual harassment, said Lyle, in an interview with NJ Advance Media.
this professor sounds demented.

Quote:
The student who shot the video, Joey Smith, said that Finkelstein's class frequently devolves into lectures directed specifically at Lyle. Smith doesn't always agree with Lyle's views, but doesn't think a teacher should ask for a student's personal views only to rip them, he said.

Smith recorded last week's class session so he could show his friends why he hates the course, he said.

The left is so tolerant... of people who already agree with them.

Otherwise you're a deplorable.

Exact same thing can be said about those on the right.

Oh for crying out loud...an instructor offended a student with an F-Bomb. What's he going to do when he's out in the Real World and the same thing (or worse) happens? People need to harden up these days.

Sounds like a trap/much ado about nothing.

The kids knew their views conflicted with his outlook. They've figured out which buttons to push. Then they taped it.

Doesn't excuse the fact that this guy is easily triggered and that an F bomb really isn't ideal but IMO all parties should just move along.

If anything, an admin can talk with the professor about better debating techniques I suppose.

Seems more like the professor was using his position of power to ridicule, insult, and shout down any differing opinions rather than debate the merits of the opinion.

Except this is a classroom and the one acting the bully/fool is the professor who holds the power of pass or fail over the students. To debate an opinion is one thing, to insult and shout down differing opinions is not professional behavior for an educator.

Ok, but those psychos exist in the world so the students are still getting exposure to dealing with it.

Think of the crazies as a science experiment. That kid, regardless if he was egging him on or not, was doing a great job of keeping his cool and trying to articulate his point.

So either way it's a win for him.

Since I believe it to be a trap I agree.

But the small chance the kid was an innocent debater he did a good job of keeping his head.

Regardless, everyone should move along.
