At first I was disappointed but reading Bloomberg's --thanks RosieSD for the link-- The judge voiced confidence in federal prosecutors and stressed that she didn’t want to slow down the matter. “I have faith in the Southern District U.S. attorney’s office that their integrity is unimpeachable,” Wood said. She said her interest is in “getting this moving”speedily and efficiently.
Both sides will nominate names for special masters for Judge's consideration but she has the final word
Plus Cohen's team only gets COPIES of materials--to review at this stage
Yes, I noticed that about the copies. So, they are not just willy nilly turning originals over that could inadvertently be lost or misplaced.
That makes sense, because the reason that they went for the warrant to search and seize in the first place was the NY prosecutor's office concern that Cohen might destroy records/documents/evidence if they didn't go in and get them first.
Also, I think it is important to remember that THIS evidence relates to possible criminal charges against COHEN, not the President.
Even so, a lot of Cohen's records are not going to be covered by attorney-client privilege, since Cohen did a lot more than just legal work. So, things like bank statements, bank transfer records, business emails, etc. probably won't fall into that category.
Whatever they suspect Cohen of must be much more than just paying off Stormy.
If Hannity's conversations with Cohen were as informal as he says, then why would Cohen have ANY records/documents related to them in his files? And why would those records fall under "attorney-client privilege" if they were just talking casually? It just doesn't make sense.
In any case, it sounds like Judge Woods has put things into a "further evaluation needed" phase now. Lots of interesting twists and turns ahead. For instance, the President's attorney's suggested in court today that the President might want to personally review all of the seized evidence himself.
Geez, I wonder if any of us would be able to go through evidence like that?
That might not be as troubling as it sounds. Certainly it might give Trump a heads-up on 'headline'-type issues, but he doesn't seem to understand more nuanced indiscretions. Remember, Al Capone got thrown in jail on tax issues, not murder.
Just as we all suspected. Donald Trump, Sean Hannity/Fox News, and the Republican Party are all joined together as a unified criminal organization. It will be very interesting to see the types of nefarious activity they have been engaged in finally exposed.
Elliot Spitzer, who was forced to resign following his own sex scandal.
On March 10, 2008, The New York Times reported that Governor of New York Eliot Spitzer had patronized an elite escort service run by
Emperors Club VIP. [1] The ensuing scandal led to him receiving criticism and ridicule in the media, and eventually Spitzer resigned as Governor a week later on March 17.
Spitzer was present in the Courtroom for a reason.
Although I blame Spitzer for being so irresponsible, Spitzer was brought down for political reasons and mostly his stance on Wall Street banksters. Spitzer has score to settle and I do not blame him for wanting to witness this. Why should a so called POTUS be so above the law when a Governor was forced out for a lot less.
We'll know soon enough. Every media outlet in America with the exception of Fox News will be digging for what is truly the reason Hannity was talking to Trump's fixer.
I think we maybe just found the Putin-Trump Media inside guy.
Watching from the gallery was not only Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, but also former Governor Elliot Spitzer of New York, who made a surprise appearance for reasons that weren’t immediately clear.
Hmm. Interesting.
Conjecture?
I missed that about Spitzer being there. That IS interesting. I wonder if Cohen did work for Spitzer back in the day? Or maybe he was just curious?
For those who might not remember, here's what happened to Spitzer back in 2008:
Gov. Eliot Spitzer, whose rise to political power as a fierce enforcer of ethics in public life was undone by revelations of his own involvement with prostitutes, resigned on Wednesday, becoming the first New York governor to leave office amid scandal in nearly a century.
Mr. Spitzer announced he was stepping down at a grim appearance at his Midtown Manhattan office, less than 48 hours after it emerged that he had been intercepted on a federal wiretap confirming plans to meet a call girl from a high-priced prostitution service in Washington, leaving the public stunned and angered and bringing business in the State Capitol to a halt.
“Over the course of my public life, I have insisted — I believe correctly — that people regardless of their position or power take responsibility for their conduct,” he said. “I can and will ask no less of myself. For this reason, I am resigning from the office of governor.”
Maybe Hannity was being paid to give a positive spin on Trump. Paid propaganda. This could be the reason Hannity said he didn't pay Cohen.
Is there no separate thread on this Hannity/Cohen thing??
