All that will do is create rich land where there is actual opportunity and poor land, where there is no opportunity and everyone lives off welfare, but hey, at least rent is cheap

Interesting story

An actress lived for decades in this New York City apartment -- for $28 a month - CNN

“Pomerantz says he plans to renovate the apartment over the next several months and put it on the market.
There will be a bit of a rent increase -- to about $5,000 a month. But he's in no hurry.
"I've been so used to getting only $28.43 a month for the last 16 years that there's just simply no rush."”

That was an amazing story, and the photos very clearly show that she was living in pretty dilapidated surroundings. Made me want to re-read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Who knew that there were still cold water flats in Greenwich Village?

In the Manhattan, Washington, DC, Chicago, Boston, Seattle, etc., areas, it's out into the collar counties, and commute on the Metra (or whatever relevant mass transit rail). You'd be surprised at how many people use that commuting time quite efficiently because they don't have to pay full attention to driving in rush hour traffic.

Why liberals should oppose rent control:

Just think of all the new income taxes the LL will have to pay on the higher rents.

There...don't you feel better now? That's new revenues you can squander on "free" sex changes for undocumented trans persons or needle hand out programs for homeless druggies!
