Of all the things to get "outraged" about this is among the stupidest. What is wrong with the PC crowd? It takes so little to trigger these pampered children.
BTW, I thought the dress looked great and was a creative choice...
I liked it, too. The slit might have been a little too high for some schools' dress codes. That's the only possible problem I see. Otherwise, she looked GREAT! And I'm sure her date was thrilled to be her escort. He sure looked happy in the photo!
The dress is beautiful and she is beautiful. People are just jealous. I think that type of dress would be appropriate for any formal occasion. Get over it and go to your cry closet.
Jeremy Lam needs to change his name or shut the flip up. Last time I looked Jeremy was a name belonging to those of English culture. Asian people are not a part of it.
I can understand people being offended if the traditional dress or other elements of their culture are used in a mocking way that belittles or makes fun of them, but this is ridiculous.
If there is any culture that has never been influenced by other cultures, I would love for someone to provide an example. That kind of purity just doesn't exist without total isolation. People exchange ideas, they adopt fashions and foods and celebrations from other nations and peoples, and have been doing so for centuries.
If I had to avoid everything that could possibly be considered "cultural appropriation," I would be sitting at home in my sweatsuit every day, eating nothing but hamburgers and tuna casserole.
Lordie. What about all the hip young Asians that dress like 90's hip hop. With nonsensical english language slogans on them such as "happy life fun party!"
Everyone needs to friggen relax. I wish the internet never happened.
Cultural appropriation is a difficult one. The lines between appropriation and appreciation can be rather blurry. My first reaction was that there’s nothing offensive about the girl wearing that dress, but I would find it offensive if she were in full native American regalia, and I’m not entirely certain why.
