Exactly. When I was an undergraduate I often studied late into the night in the common lounge - just a bunch of desks. There were guys who often fell asleep in that lounge. No one ever called the cops on them. One guy was known to fall asleep and just lay on the carpet underneath the desks. People often joked about it. There was no police complaint. But they were all white.
Years ago I was recruited to an Ivy League school. They wanted more Native Americans. But I cancelled the trip. The university representative was very surprised, and many students working with her to recruit Native Americans were extremely upset. But I cancelled because I had heard rumors of racism on that campus. Years later, I found a lot of confirmation on the internet.
The big problem on an expensive Ivy League campus is that many extremely wealthy white students from the white suburbs ("white flight origination") of major cities are often uncomfortable being in classes or dorms with minority students from the inner cities or rural areas. Recall how Michele Obama's white roommate changed rooms upon learning she was black long ago in her freshman year. So, this can lead to cases of racial conflict like racial profiling.
In addition to the racial profiling, there is also the "subtle racism" that the minority student on campus does not truly belong there. The common view is that the academic standards were lowered to let them in. And this led to them taking spots away from far more qualified white applicants. This view is very much hard-wired into the typical Ivy League campus. I was glad I cancelled that trip years ago. I was much happier in Florida where affirmative action was outlawed and the in-state schools have a lot of diversity with a relative less amount of racial tension. Note I said "relative" - not "absolute". I have been attacked online when I use the phrase "relative racism" because some posters thought I meant "no racism". I mean relative as in less racial tension in a typical Florida campus compared to the Ivy League.
Interesting points. It very well may be that those Ivy League students that are extremely wealthy may struggle with the diversity on their campuses, whether from inner cities/rural areas or not. Considering this is the end of the year and exam time, it’s highly likely that the harassing student was simply targeting a focused minority student. The very presence of racial minorities on campus seems to bother some.
I attended an elite university (often referred to as a southern ivy) and the affirmative action views definitely existed. During the first week, there were posters up complaining that minorities should not be there and were underqualified. That was my first exposure to such issues but I simply found them strange as someone who has always been at the top of my class in schools that were up to 95% white. Honestly, I looked at those students as spoiled generational American children who were somewhat unfocused and ungrateful for the opportunity to further their education at a prestigious university. Most of my friends were also immigrants or children of immigrants and viewed them similarly. In fact, I still view those types as such. Those attitudes existed prior to affirmative action and likely will exist after it is gone. Such as life.
Nope...that's what you claim since you cannot refute my argument. Bye now!
No "claim" was made. You literally attempted to condemn bias in regards to race while displaying bigotry based on geographic origin, in the same sentence.
That is the very definition of irony.

As a former RA, everyone, by now, should know each other, by now! There's an RA in every dormitory/residence hall (or should be). The fact that the caller went even above the RA (or the hall director, if the RA isn't present!) and called campus police on this......!
