What saddens me is that he is sincere in his belief that he is totally a victim of racial prejudice, and is in no way responsible for his actions. And, he's no dummy.
Former democrat congressman Mel Reynolds claimed he is "done with America and I'm going home- to Africa. I've given up on America" after he was sentenced to six months in prison for not paying taxes. Reynolds also asked the judge, "how long does a person have to pay for mistakes?' referring to his 1995 conviction for statutory rape, and his 1997 conviction for campaign and bank fraud. After hearing his sentence, he said "I've been taught about this racist society every day of my life."
Seems to me it would have been a little easier just to pay his taxes...
Okay, he does have a point. Once you’ve done your time, you still pay for it the rest of your life when people won’t hire someone with a record. I disagree with his statement that it’s due to racism. He did the crimes, so he can’t say he didn’t deserve the punishment.
I think he’s going to find out that Africa isn’t his home. That would be like me saying I’m going home to Ireland or Germany or wherever some of my ancestors came from. Not sure where they all came from, but those were the two major ones that showed up on my sister’s DNA test. I’ve never been to either country, so America is my home.
Rachel Maddow showed you one year, remember? And it turned out that he paid more than all the left's little heroes? You want a repeat of that?
For the 100th time on this forum: There is no law stating that a presidential candidate has to reveal his tax records.
I agree. Remember when Harry Reid accused Mitt Romney of tax evasion on the senate floor in an effort to smear him and shame him into releasing his tax returns? Then when people asked this person who had served in government for decades to release his tax returns he said no. Mitt Romney and Donald Trump made their money in the private sector. They don’t owe us their tax returns. If the IRS has the dirty on either candidate, it would have been leaked by some public sector union employee since they were Republicans. You know, like the county tax office did to Joe the Plumber for having the audacity to ask a question of Obama at a campaign event?
“Four months is a lot better than 27 months, which is what the prosecution was asking for,” said Reynolds, who did not hide his bitterness toward prosecutors and news media.
“You guys were going crazy with this two years, and it didn’t happen,” Reynolds said.
He got a nice break on his time.
And if you surf through the article...
This is Reynolds’ third conviction and prison sentence.
His two previous convictions stemmed from his time in Congress: the first in state court in 1995 for having sex with an underage campaign worker and the second in federal court in 1997 on campaign and bank fraud charges.
In 2001, President Bill Clinton commuted Reynolds’ federal sentence with more than two years remaining, allowing him to serve the rest of his sentence at a halfway house.
This dude has the nerve to ask “How long does a person have to pay for mistakes?" ...
Well heck - you haven't paid that much time to begin with... and you keep making mistakes. He is a piece of work. You gotta be kidding me with this crap... cry me a river...

mr congressman, perhaps you should pay attention to boeying the law instead of violating, it. then perhaps you wont be going to jail again.
but since you seem to want to leave the country, then all i can say is dont let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya. i also recommend waiting until you are in fact free and clear of legal entanglements before leaving, else you may end up in even hotter water, and a delay.

On the other hand, Stormy's lawyer has some serious IRS issues.
