One of the main reasons Trump is so popular is that he gives a big middle finger to political correctness. He intentionally spites demographics who aren't his base, be it racial minorities, LGBT, non-Christians, educated people, urban elites, etc. People love that and that is why no matter what Trump does, he continues to remain popular and his support shows no signs of eroding. It comes down to tribalism and Trump is really sticking it to the people that red state America have long considered "deplorable" and they love it. So the question is, why does political correctness bother people so bad? What is so bad about being empathetic to people who may be different from the norm?

The mindset of PC is toxic and when it infiltrates societal institutions (police, education, workplaces) it leads to policies that are absolutely disastrous for those who wish to be peaceful, achieve on merit, and remain an individual.

I think it's so ironic that some of the buffoons who support him (specifically evangelicals) are the epitome of political fakeness/correctness (dressing up to look "good" to go to church, while being hateful hypocrites, for example).

The other faction: The toothless, beer-bellied set - they would not be able to comprehend how to be politically correct (i.e., fakely polite) if their lives depended on it.

Trump does not lack PC sensibilities. He lacks manners.

BIG difference.

his followers lack both.

I won't bother to post some of the memes of his supporters with their obscene t-shirts and signs, but they are happy to have explicit permission to go ahead and publicly say the hate-filled racist, sexist, islamophobic, anti-immigrant, etc. swill they've been shamed for saying before Trump took office. Now it's fair game to spew this hate, because after all, the president does.

I find it funny that the "anti-pc" crowd, are the ones that throw the biggest tantrums when their folks are criticized or joked. The far-right, and far-left are equally as snowflakey, and have a lot more in common than they would ever admit.

White American conservatives see an erosion of what they consider the real America. Things like gay or trans rights or even rights for racial minorities rub them the wrong way. Thats why you see so many of them talking about the golden age of the 1950s when white american men had unquestioned authority and privilege. They view wrongly that extending rights to others hurts them.

In my experience, the people who are most opposed to political correctness simply want to act boorishly without any social repercussions.

Bingo.

You are free to say whatever you like, but that doesn't excuse you from judgment.
