High school kids have NOT changed though, its the police state Govt that has drastically changed over the course of recent years, they are cracking down and are demanding more and more control, its what a tyrannical govt does.
Kids have changed. mass student on student school shootings were unheard of until columbine twenty years ago. guns have always been available. kids were always bullied in school. mental illness is not a new phenomenon with high school students, either.
why is this generation of kids killing fellow students in mass school shootings?

Most of the pot smokers I knew started with alcohol.
I'm sure they did, both are drugs. But as you know not all pot heads drink, but every Heroin addict smoked pot at one time. There may be an exception but it's probably very low.
I'm not even against pot at all. There are just negatives with pot smoking just like drinking or most other activities.

They see it on the news and social media. Just like any activity, there's always the first one or two before an avalanche.

Legalize it and that alleged correlation will diminish. When you buy pot you are breaking the law already, and chances are your dealer also deals in harder drugs. If you buy pot at a legal dispensary they're not also going to offer you some cocaine.

The vast majority of heroin users also ate sugar, which interestingly enough is far more addictive than pot.

Exactly.
The sleazy street dealers don't get to enjoy long term extortionate profit from mere pot customers. They would much rather push people onto actual physically addictive drugs, often going so far as to offer existing pot customers "free" samples of harder drugs.
If pot is legalized and properly sold in stores, few people would ever come into contact with scumbag hard drug pushers on the street.
If, for some reason, coffee was banned, street dealers would get on that ASAP. And they may well urge those customers to graduate to meth or crack.
But instead, coffee is legal, and the biggest issue of the addictiveness of coffee (whereas pot isn't) is the preponderance of humorous coffee mugs with grumpy sayings on them.
