It's never a waste to vote. The politicians need to know some of us are still engaged and we can group together to get propositions on the ballot. In California the Dem legislature passed a gas tax and that was the straw that broke the camel's back. One Congressman got recalled as a result and now we can vote to repeal the tax.
We can chip away at their power base. The Republican candidate for governor, John Cox, is surprising everyone by closing the gap with Gavin Newsom, the uber liberal former mayor of San Francisco.
What you could do is re-register as independent or no party affiliation. The Dems will see their numbers drop and panic. As a bonus you won't be harassed with letters and emails begging for donations!
