Many of them voted for him too. I have many cousins from North to South that helped put him in office. One family that farm in ND ... I left FB, because I was so tired of the Obama drama, then along came the Trump camp and I couldn't take it any more, so I went off FB grid.

Now the question becomes if this country is worse off and we at this point can't say it won't happen, who will step up to take the crown?

When people are mad at the Republican party, they tend to the next time around go Democrat as if that will make it all better. Then of course visa versa ... with many still remembering how it went with a Democrat in office and the Republican still fresh on the brain ... future election will be interesting, no doubt.

One thing for sure, getting through the tariff war is going to be (was going to use other word, thought against it) ... tough for the many concerned.

Did OP check on the 30 year softwood lumber dispute. Trump wasn't around for any of that.

But it happened.

Because some of our previous presidents love screwing over workers in this country in favor of cheap foreign goods

because tariffs level the playing field...

how is any country supposed to have level trading if wages, taxes, fees, etc are so off kilter

let's take it down to the micro level for a minute...its about costs
business are going to go where they have the least overhead, where it costs the least to import, where the wage rate is cheaper...that's business

example..showrooms(stores) are location, location, location......but warehouses and factorie are not

if you NEED a 2,000,000 sf warehouse....... and a lease in Nassau county will cost you 30k per month for 2m sf...........but 10 minutes away in Suffolk county you can get a 2.5m sf warehouse for 15k with room to expand............which warehouse are you going to go for???? its a 10 minute difference, an extra 500k of sf,, and half the cost

the same goes for wages...you need 100 people to make a widget.... you have a set wage cost....do you get 10 people at $25/hr..... or do you get 100 people at 20/day... well the 10 people at 25/hr on a 40 hr week is 80k...yet the 10 at 20/day is only 10k

that's the reason for import tariffs....to equal the playing field

liberals need to stop with their globalist socialism schemes of no tariffs, no borders, one size fits all....liberals need to start using their brains...

But the USA has a trade surplus with Canada with dairy -- so what level playing field do you need?

this is going to be fun ... but for Trump, he can use something he doesn't have.

Trump makes stunning reversal, says there should be 'no tariffs, no barriers' at G7 summit weeks after imposing huge tariffs on US allies
Quote:
"Ultimately that's what you want, you want tariff free, no barriers, and you want no subsides because you have some countries subsidizing industries and that's not fair," Trump said. "So you go tariff free, you go barrier free, you go subsidy free, that's the way you learned at the Wharton School of Finance."
According to reports, the other leaders were taken aback by the suggestions and not sure how serious Trump was about it. The president alluded to the surprise during the press conference.
It was one of those off the cuff comments he loves to do and then as quickly as he said it, he did a take back. I heard it when pbs news ran the footage of his speaking at the G7. No comment was made about it, like they didn't hear it. I thought to myself, 'how could they miss that?'

imo, he was just trying to throw those people off balance or he is just so ignorant he doesn't understand any of it and he's flying by the seat of his pants. Any way ... there's that level playing field, you're going on about, no tariffs ... From some one who calls himself Republican and a billionaire. What cha bet he's neither and he needed the campaign money. Lord knows he needed time away from his lawsuits that are waiting for him when he's out.

Trade barriers get so deep and crazy that they make your head spin:

export subsidies, taxes, licenses, customs valuations, restrictions at ports of entry, bans, registrations and permits, lack of intellectual property protections, investment barriers, service barriers, and on and on and on.

This is only 504 pages of this crazy stuff:

We now check for even more US made so less money for China.

We never bought any other car then European car when we lived in Europe and US brand while living here. We support the US economy as much as possible as we chose to live here and that’s our way to contribute to the IS and say thank you!

I know that you Trump supporters have a hard time dealing with reality on most every level but the truth is VERY little is made in America these days. it's time to face reality. And the list is getting smaller, do you think that ALL the parts in an a car made here are not from China and other countries? Do you honestly expect that because of the rising cost of things made in China that working class people will be able to afford them? Are you daft? Or just don't give a damn and have no heart?

From your link, in the section about Canada:

” Under the NAFTA, tariffs on nearly all goods were eliminated progressively, with all final duties and quantitative restrictions eliminated, as scheduled, by January 1, 2008. Canada still maintains tariffs on dairy, poultry, and egg products while the United States still maintains tariffs on dairy, sugar, and peanut products from Canada. “
