Of course technically regime is fine to use but for anyone who uses a vocabulary past an elementary school level, there is an appreciation for the connotation of a word as much as the detonation of the word.
In practice, in everyday use -- we use regime to imply an authoritarian govt. We just do. Unless your Trump and you don't use that word because it isn't your limited word bank.
Public speakers should choose their words carefully because they do have very different connotations based on context, etc.
That's not Trump's skill though. He usually keeps it simple, was trying to sound above his vocab level after a week of sitting with world leaders who have an extensive vocabulary -- even those who have English as a second language.
I hope the media doesn't focus on this much.
It's another one of those stupid moves from this administration and it keeps us from talking about real issues
I agree with you on the last part for sure. I just find it silly how some people will find fault with something he says where in fact there is no fault. I've seen this over and over again but whatever.

I have great fun here with bashing Trump -- playing with some folks -- not nice...but in real life, it is time to stop focussing on this stuff.....
This is social media fodder...hope it isn't political pundit focus.

It's not silly. When a few in the media after his election, called it a trump regime, there was a lot of push-back from the WH and the GOP. Obviously the WH staff and the GOP recognize that the connotation of the word is not one they want to be associated with.
But what is it like to hang on every word of a person you hate?
The obsessiveness you have with Trump is bordering on the pathological.
It's a deep hatred obsessiveness for the left to focus on every little thing Trump does and says, so they have the ultimate "hope" of being able to get a huge movement going with angry people holding pitchforks and stakes, storming the white house to impeach him.
Basically it's just because they can't stand him, because he's doing everything he can to make the US a stronger, dominant superpower again, and move away from the socialist "regime" that a lot on the left so strongly dream of and desire.

Maybe you should untwist your panties and not let this bother you so much
He's not good with words. As much as I strongly dislike Trump, he has no idea how words work and he has the vocabulary of a fourth grader. I doubt he meant anything by it. Did he even pronounce it correctly? LOL

I had forgotten about that.
