1) He's a young black man in a major urban area. Mistaken identity, robbery, could be anything but it happens all the time....heck look at the whole point of this thread?
2) When is the best time to murder a witness?
a) Before the testimony.
b) After the testimony.
P.S. Probably should ask yourself if media and other outlets are seeking to profit from this young mans murder by trying to make a ratings grab with it. I guess that if it helps catch the killer that would be one thing, but consider the irony that if his new girlfriends ex did it (for example) you guys are helping craft a defense for him.

BS! Just being young and black does not put him in a high risk category in and of itself. A lot depends on ones income level, lifestyle, behavior, etc. He was a key witness for the prosecution. If his background was such, the defense would have tried to use that to discredit his testimony. Dallas has like 155 murders with a population of about 1.4 million in city. St. Louis has more than that with barely 300,000 people. Dallas is hardly a murder capital.
I am sure he was not killed before the trial because the police generally get away with murder!!! Killing him before the trial would have really looked bad and would really be suspect. Besides, this is not about this trail, but to put fear in people in future such trials from testifying against the police.
I do have a question. This gentleman is described as an "entrepreneur". From what source does the income of this gentleman derive? The term would in my mind be one used to cover a number of different sources...

Killing him before trial would be suspect, but killing him afterward wouldn't be, which is why people like you are presuming that's why he was killed.

He had AirBnB properties. I'm sure you'll find something sordid in that.

Retribution. The mob does it all the time.
