I see the same thing happening with Jimmy Carter today. He wasn't close to being as popular when he was President as he is today, but he achieved all of his good will through the actions he took after he became a private citizen again.

yes, Dems still think a smooth talking politician who hides his true nature behind that is the way to go.
Obama has dignity and has always shown respect for women, opponents and the electorate. I cannot recall hearing that he ripped anyone off at a bogus university. He showed his tax returns and divested his investments into treasury bonds according to protocol and was openly loving and respectful to his wife and family. Trump the POS birther trolled Obama for eight years and Obama remained dignified and took the high road at all times. Trump the grifter and *****-grabber could not shine Obama's shoes
Hillary had a lot of baggage and should have never been the candidate. Although she was way more qualified and more diplomatic than Trump. And in theory, after 8 years of a democratic president it makes sense that a republican would win and vice versa.....but Trump is what I don't understand. Republicans had so many qualified candidates to chose from. Democrats didn't.
Republican's didn't end up having a single qualified candidate. All stooges.

I'm not emotionally attached to a party so I don't get the angst that some folks feel when Obama speaks.
I don't like Trump because he is Trump -- it has nothing to do with politics.
