No, I think the moral here is that law-abiding, hard working people living in their country with their own cultures and customs don't want a bunch of others moving in and then demanding that culture and customs be changed to meet the newcomers desires.
Europe is changing in big ways and it is sad because the individual countries are losing their unique identities.
My wife is from Ireland and we go back as often as we can and there has been changes there.
There has been a huge influx of Eastern European people which is ok because they integrate but there has also been a influx of muslims to sections of the country and they don't mingle as well. One small city in particular had to fight the local mosque because they wanted to use loud speakers to issue the call to prayer. Imagine that. A city that has been Christian for centuries was suddenly threatened by islam being trumpeted 5 times a day from the mosque.
It is all so weird. I think they ended up denying the loud speakers and the muslims use a cell phone ap to get the message.
The world is changing and it is getting smaller.
Trump is trying to slow the altering change to America and he is attacked for it.
This is such a facile comment. The Nordic countries have been making the news for months, due to their reaction to the predominantly negative affects of unchecked immigration upon their countries. This is just a continuation. You paint as simple action/reaction. Some follow events of the world, not just parochial politics.

Every action creates a reaction. Open Borders folks should have thought those things through, at the start.
It's an interesting article but Sweden is not a nation of Immigrants nor has it an economy or population demographic anywhere near that of the US (they talk about 16 murders in 2016 - we can only wish our numbers were that low). Beyond those differences there are similarities in the anti-immigrant movements. Too much change in too short a period of time and any population gets anxious.
As far as US politicians go I know of no major figure or party that is advocating Open Borders. The US problems with illegal immigration are literally decades in the making and there are many at fault. Even now with Trump in office and a Republican-controlled Congress. There is no current legislative action of fixing our issues with the 10 million or so in limbo.
BTW it's a bit ironic when Trump supporter (?) posts articles from the NYT.

Go figure.
I agree. I like the differences of each country and their unique cultures and languages. Mass immigration changes all that. We then become mutt countries with no identity and no soul.

that's 16 murders in one select suburb, not the entire country.
plenty of US suburbs have fewer murders than that.
Denmark’s “Ghetto” Policies Are an Ominous Sign That Liberal Europe Is Starting to Unravel at the Seams
Among the many changes, children from “ghetto” areas—where more than 50% of the population are non-Western immigrants, mainly Muslims—will have to attend obligatory daycare for 25 hours or more a week from the age of 1, so that they learn “Danish values” and traditions, like Christmas and Easter. A law under consideration would impose a four-year prison sentence for parents who commit “re-education trips”—sending their children on “extended” visits to the parent’s country of originhttp://time.com/5329100/denmark-ghetto-policies-liberal-europe/
You think Sweden is getting tough, you should check out Denmark. You either fully assimilate or banish from the land.
