America should be better than this.
Not in my America. In my America there's an investment surge on housing that's surpassing 2006 levels. There's jobs everywhere, and our state is growing at an astronomical pace. The poor simply have to grab a coattail and hang on for the ride to the top...

It's about luck too. And, in many cases, its about who you know and not necessarily what you know.

Life is hard but it is harder if you are always looking over the fence at what someone else has instead of concentrating on what you have. If it's not enough then do something about it. Perhaps your life was meant to be what it is and you have to learn to deal with it. Or not and then you can complain on an internet forum about how others have more than you. Play the hand you are dealt to the best of your ability.

Genes are far more than innate intelligence. The same parenting can lead to hugely different results. The first few years of a child's life and genes have tremendous effects on a person and that person has zero control over it. You really do have far less control than you think you have. Its a game of luck. And yes, the wage stagnation has been going of for decades. Trump is just accelerating the gap between the haves and the have-nots. After all, his cabinet is packed full of Wall Street big shots and he rewarded the people who have gone to war against the working class with a massive trillion dollar tax cut.

The disabled currently get $700 a month to survive on. Is it acceptable? Of course not. Should it be massively increased? Are you voting for someone who has this at the top of their agenda? Absolutely not. The question you have to ask yourself is why? Why not vote for non-corrupt people who fight for increased SSI benefits, worker's rights, public funding of elections and a national health care system? What's so great about becoming homeless just because of cancer? I dont get it.

Thanks, CCLady.

I'm a big advocate of using the original link as well, though, to let the authors benefit from any clicks. So here is what I think was the original article from The Nation.

The United States Has a National-Security Problem—and It’s Not What You Think
By Rajan Menon

For millions of Americans, however, the greatest threat to their day-to-day security isn’t terrorism or North Korea, Iran, Russia, or China. It’s internal—and economic. That’s particularly true for the 12.7 percent of Americans (43.1 million of them) classified as poor by the government’s criteria...

Please identify those people running for office who you think are so worthy.

Anyone who is not corrupt would be a great start. Why vote for corrupt Wall Street puppets? When inequality gets out of hand, the ruling class can simply buy legislation. You have to choose. Either massive inequality and corruption, or democracy. You cant have both. Look at the donors of the people you vote for. Who will they serve?

Why should it not be successful for the disabled? I dont get it. Just because someone doesnt work doesnt mean they should be treated like garbage. Work rate is largely genetic anyway, so its not like thats some amazing feat in itself when you dont control your genes. And even so, plenty of hard workers live in poverty anyway. The reason Trump was elected was because of massive inequality and the destruction of labor unions which causes tremendous pain and despair in the population. Trump is accelerating that trend, so looking at a used car salesman like Trump as the solution is foolish.

Expecting any president, or elected official, to fix your life or make you successful is foolish.
