I agree with you wholeheartedly, although I don't know that is true about Joy Behar (as I have rarely heard her speak), but I have often read and heard the opinion expressed by other people.
The problem is that there WERE (and ARE) a great many old white men who showed absolutely disgraceful behavior, but instead of using the word "some" or "many", quite a few people have chosen to take the view that ALL white men were and are despicable.
I wonder why some people who say that you should not judge a whole group of people by the behavior of some (okay, many) of its members, believe that it is okay to break this "rule" when it comes to old white men.
Hypocrisy raises its ugly head once again.
There WERE (and ARE) a great many PEOPLE of all ages, races and religions who have shown absolutely disgraceful behavior.......but apparently it only matters when it's old white men.
It's not literally "old white men" but a stereotype. It's referring to the Republican base that is still angry about the Civil Rights Act and the sexual revolution and wishes we could return to the "good ole days" when white heterosexual Christian men were in charge of everything and women were in the kitchen, gays were in the closet, and brown-skinned people stayed on their side of town out of sight and out of mind. Most people who hold onto that worldview are older white men, though it isn't so exclusively.
My father donated to food shelves, worked in homeless shelters, was a dedicated employee at his job for 35 years, never broke a single law, and "progressives" actually have poisoned him, his image. It turns my stomach and honestly, while I never had hate in my heart, every time I hear one of these cretins say that term ("old white man") it genuinely makes me have hate in my heart for them.
Old White Man here. Their comments are about politics. You do realize they are not talking about your father. Right?

Their comments are intended to demonize people solely because of their age and their race.
The real reason the left is angry is because their abusive corrupt grip on power has ended. They are furious they will not be able to continue using the organs of government in a corrupt and illegal fashion to further their radical, racist, hateful, aggressive Marxist agenda.
I have been hearing this filth out of the mouths of people like Joy Behar and various other "progressives" for a while now, and I am wondering, when did such filth become acceptable rhetoric in this country?
My father was an "old white man" and he was the most decent, hard-working, genuinely good-hearted human being I have ever known. So liberals have taken what was the most wholesome and decent example of a human I have ever known, and poisoned it.
How the **** is this filth tolerated today? How in the world could anyone let a vile creature like Joy Behar and like-minded creatures spew their HATE without challenge?
1. There are plenty of newly minted graduates of African-American Studies and Womens Studies over the past few years, none of whom are eager to become coffee-jockeys at Starbucks
2. There are spider webs of social justice groups funded by deep-pocketed elites who envision a world order different from that which is currently in place.
3. There are liberal politicians who depend on the dependency of women and minorities for their elections and re-elections.
4. Screaming SJW's (both minority and women) makes for good click-bait/TV ratings, which makes for more eyes on screens, which makes for more advertising dollars.
5. Ginning up race and gender division keeps the unwashed masses at each others throats. If we're directing our vitriol at our fellow citizens, we're not focused on the do-nothing, opportunistic, self-interested ignoramuses that we voted into office to represent us.
None of this happened organically. It's not just random hatred, random opportunism, or random rhetoric. There is a method to the madness. Follow the money. Follow the constant need to get power, stay in power, or regain power.

No one is talking about your dad, or mine.
Clearly.
