Speaking only for myself here:

I was hired by Amazon at the age of 61 -- as an employee of Integrity Staffing(in-house temp agency); worked one Holiday peak-season, was furloughed, and recalled, after a thorough physical.

Seven months passed before I was directly hired, but I had full health benefits as a temp.

Pay was $13.50/hr -- same as direct hires; this was in 2010-12 (Amazon pegged base pay at 85% of the median wage for all industrial plants in the Metro (this sample does NOT include your local fast-food joint) SOURCE OF THE DATA: U S Department of Labor.

I had to struggle to "make rate", but was never directly pressured -- save by one very-junior supe who was promptly cautioned. But despite a degree in logistics and a warehousing background, I was never offered an opportunity for a more "cerebral" job (I've lived with a minor, but real physical handicap -- spinsl curvature -- since age 10, and the reluctance to invest in a 60+-year-old employee is understandable).

I was terminated (for "rate") approximately one week before a stock offer would have taken effect.

I then moved to another Amazon facility (again, as a temp) -- the commute was approximately the same at both locations; this "bought enough time" to allow me to retire at the full Social Security benefit.
.
To summarize; It's a rough game, (and definitely a young person's game), in an imperfect world, but I don't think I would have done as well anywhere else, and at that stage in life, I got no special treatment -- and didn't ask for any.

warts and all.

Not a Bernie fan, but I found he was correct about them treating workers horribly. It was known before he said it. Also, he's correct that Amazon was sending paid people to go give them good PR on places like Twitter as I saw a bunch of Amazon twitter handles trying to counter the stories.

Similar sentiments were expressed back when, about the unrestrained expansion of Sears department stores and catalog sales. Imagine home builders were none too pleased about Sears selling home kits starting in 1908.

Sears began to publish their annual Wish Book for Christmas shopping during the Great Depression. Tens of millions of kids poured over the Wish Book and made their own wish lists. Imagine independent toy stores were none to pleased.

In 1994, 98 million consumers made $60 billion worth of purchases from home, nearly all of it, via phone , prompted by mail catalogs and TV shopping. No shortage of brick and mortar stores felt the pinch.

Sears discontinued its catalog that year.

Amazon was formed that year to sell books online. The rest is history.

Today, nearly half the units sold on Amazon are sold by independent sellers who choose to use Amazon to advertise the products. The majority of the independent sellers choose to allow Amazon to fulfill their orders.

Brieibart is quoting The Times ( UK) . As is common, other media pick up on it.

The UK regulates UK charities via the Charity Commission, a part of the government. The Muslim Research and Development Foundation is a registered charity in good standing with the Charity Commission, which is what Amazon relies on to include a UK Charity in the UK arm of the Amazon Smile Program.

Shame on them for being a profitable corporation.

Shame on Jeff Bezos for being weathier than Donald Jackass Trump.

I enjoy Bezos because I know Trump has tantrums over him.

I agree with this. No matter how many times someone on the left or right complains about Amazon (because both sides complain about Amazon a lot), I still like it. It's convenient, and there's been times when I had my purchase within hours of ordering, and I didn't have to deal with traffic or parking or idiots anywhere. I'm happy with that.

Far right organizations fighting over power doesn’t change the fact they are ideologically the same.

Neo-liberals are right wing.

And Amazon is more than that, they are also neo-conservative, imperialistic, authoritarian, and vulture capitalist.

https://www.breitbart.com/london/201...saudi-scholar/
Haitian al-Haddad, a Saudi National, is a Muslim scholar and Iman who has successfully sued the Times ( UK) before for printing lies. He gets a financial settlement and the Times retracts. Lather/ Rinse/ Repeat.

He is the Chairman and Operating Advisor to the Muslim Research Foundation which is regulated by the Charity Commission of the UK Government. It is in compliance with all disclosure laws and in good standing.

Amazon customers make recommendations for inclusions to the Amazon Smile Program. Amazon relies on a charities standing with the UK commission.

An independent foundation that claims its purpose is to flight extremism and promote pluralism deemed Haitian al- Haddad’s rhetoric, dangerous.

Haitian is a big deal in the Salafi Movement within Sunni Islam. Long time US ally, Saudi Arabia is the global sponsor of the movement.

Saudi Arabia loves Trump and Trump loves Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Prince in power eliminated the ban on women driving which had no basis in religion. Rather, it helped to ensure more men had jobs to support their large families. Of course the women are still covered head to toe and are physically segregated from men in all public venues, cause we know, men are not responsible for their choice to not control their urges.

None of it matters so long as the Saudi continue to quote and settle oil in USD, unlike that dirty no good Iran.
