Nevertheless, the people who stayed behind told me they had a common reason for doing so. On Wednesday night, noted human rights activist father Alejandro Solalinde visited the stadium and said a Canadian archbishop would be visiting Saturday to talk about transporting asylum-seekers to Canada instead of the U.S.

Hmmmm...
I hope Canada fly them in (all 10-15,000) because we all know not one will make it to Canada on buses going through the states.

That's my thought, too. If they were put on buses going to Canada, the first time the bus makes a rest stop, all the so-called asylum seekers would bail out and be in the wind.

That's what I would do, if I was an asylum seeker on a bus to Canada. No way Im living like a polar bear up there, Lol.
My great- grandparents came here legally. Big difference.
We're not talking about illegals. This is a thread about the Caravan -- refugees who want to come to the US legally -- you know, like your great grandparents.

The problem is that the vast majority won't qualify for asylum---and you know it, too.
I have no idea what the ratio is and neither do you. If the the vast majority are being rejected, maybe the criteria are too stringent. The ones that are legitimately undesirable will be turned away and become Mexico's problem I imagine.

Not everybody who came here 100 years ago was a "refugee".
Call them what you will. They came here for a better life, just like these people are trying to do.

If you took the time to read some recent posts, you would see that 80% or more of them are young males. They have no claim to asylum. In fact, when interviewed, they say they want to come here for economic reasons, which is not a reason for asylum.
The caravan members want a better life So what? They aren't entitled to come here. All the third world wants a better life. We can't take in the entire third world without descending into third world status ourselves. I want better than that for my descendants. Why don't you want the same?
To make yourself feel better, move to one of the banana republics. Then you can spend your own money helping these people since your heart bleeds for them. Time to put your money where your mouth is

Bingo.
How many risked their lives on uncertain ocean voyages because they had it so great back in Ireland, or wherever else they were getting the hell out of?
While some may have been in fear for their lives, afraid of being conscripted into the Czar's military, etc., the vast majority came here looking for a better future for their children.
Why all this hatred towards people who are doing the same thing anyone in their right mind would do?
If Republicans were actually serious and not just using this to whip up the morons, they'd attach some serious penalties to hiring folks without the proper paperwork.
Republicans stripped the strict sanctions from Reagan's amnesty bill and have carefully avoided talking about it ever since.
