No doubt controlling the Senate is still a good thing.
But what Trump wanted was full control...and he didn't get it.
RBG woke up this morning and called her doctor to get a transfusion. Her hope of retiring next year just got squashed. President Trump has another two years to pack the courts with his nominees with additional GOP votes.

IF the dems somehow, I DON'T know HOW LEGALLY they can, get them, NEXT the repubs will go after Pelosi's, Fienstrein's, Shumer's, Shiff's, Jackson's, Water's,, etc.
EVERY TIME a top dem opens their mouth, their tax returns will gone through with a fine toothed comb.
Dems SELDOM look past what they say and do and look at he long term affects, Senate Nuclear option, NOT nominating for the Supreme Court in a last year of a president term, etc..
BOTH things the dems did or promised to do backfired BIG TIME on them.
Don't you have to have hope to be in order to 'lose' it.

There was not. I guess it depends which propaganda wing of the media you buy into. Everything I read/heard in the last few weeks stated that it was a HUGE longshot that the Dems would gain anything in the Senate and they may even lose a few seats. That's exactly what happened.
These people on C&D who are shouting out some gleeful "win" here must have been listening to Gateway Pundit or whatever touting the line of "Those Democrats think they are going to get everything." Nope. No practical democrat voter ever thought that. I've got a hard core, overly positive blue-dog Democrat in my office who can get a little bit out of control in his thinking and HE wasn't even going there.
But I think we need to let the right-wingers on this site have their little gloat fest so they can feel better about the House. I think there where many of them who really believed the Dems would NOT get control of the house. Just go read that Dilbert thread.

The Dems won the right to gridlock Trump's legislative agenda. But Trump won the right to go even more conservative with the Judiciary with Republicans doing far better in the Senate than "the polls' predicted.
Since I love government gridlock and a Judiciary that will follow the Constitution, I'm very happy with yesterday's results.
President Trump's agenda was already gridlocked by his own party that has prevented the full repeal of ObamaNoCare and the border wall. Now the Democrats are free to push their socialist ideas that will automatically be rejected by the Senate and/or vetoed by the president. They will have to give Trump what he wants on some things or they will be blamed if the economy starts to slow. If they get too crazy, Trump will just appoint a new Attorney General and go after them all.
I keep hearing stupid nonsense about dumb tax returns, outrageous unwarranted impeachment, etc. like any of those things is going to help struggling Americans I'm prove their lives.
Impeachment is now off the table. The Senate will reject anything passed by the House. Maxine Waters is the barking dog that finally caught the car now she can't do anything with it.
That's rich coming the party that had 47383737 investigations into Benghazi, Hillary's email server, and whatever other petty BS right wing media was peddling.
OP: If violating campaign promises mattered, Trump would have zero supporters left, so don't get your hopes up on that one.

The biggie that sank the Dems in the Senate was the Kavanaugh thing really energized the GOP voters. In the Senate, looking at the large margins of wins in IN, ND and MO, TN, it looks to me like the Dems were not really in it and it only increased the GOP win there. In the apparent GOP win in MT.... Kavanaugh may have been the factor there.
Sherrod Brown OH is an old style labor Dem with massive name recognition and he won on that. Menendez NJ was never really in trouble. The GOP might want to NOT nominate someone from a hated crony industry next time.
My personal disappointment was set long ago. Once Romney won the primary, it was over in Utah. Romney is an economic parasite who got richer when already rich by bust outs during his Bain days.
The Dems are in a pickle. Most of the new House members have run on not voting for Pelosi to be their majority leader. Guess what, they won't have a choice. They will be breaking campaign promises right out of the gate. Write it down, watch it happen.
As for the Governors and Senate, which the Pubs gained - Trump is set for 2020, he will need those Governors. His agenda will be stalled for two years as the left continue to resist. THAT is not what their constituents wanted.
BTW, with the vast majority in the Senate (+5) Trump will own the judiciary. The benches will be stacked with Constitutional/Originalist judges. The Republicans haven't had the SCOTUS and Circuit courts for 60 years. Think about that.
Pat yourselves on the back for taking the house. A battle won for sure. With the crazy lineup (Waters going after banks, the rest going for impeachment) you have set yourselves up to lose 2020, bigly.
Write it down, watch it happen.
Because there aren't the ritual deflections and push back, I can only think you're actually coming to the realization that Trump played his best hand. He got exactly what he wanted.

Trying to make yourself feel better this morning ? The reality is, while the Democrats didn't get a clean sweep, a LOT of them, who would have never had a chance under normal circumstances, are now heading to Washington and 7 of them are new Governors. They took back the House, and that is YUGE.
Trump said this election was about him, and he was right. More people turned out to vote than previous mid terms, and a whole lot of them were not hitting the R button on the voting machine. You can bet The Donald isn't jumping up and down, like you are pretending to do, right now. He got his tail handed to him "BIGLY".
