CA poverty level is 19%.

Almost 33% of all people on welfare live in CA.

Etc.

California is a large state that has some of the richest people and some of the poorest as well.

California is a testing ground for Liberal/Socialist ideas and some of those ideas flat out fail the people. It is also the reason they have lots of crime.

It certainly doesn't help the bottom line to be a Sanctuary state for illegal aliens.

A combination of good weather and some generous social policies (in relation to the rest of the USA) attract America's homeless population to California. Then there is also mass immigration.

Thread title fail.

California does not have the highest rate of poverty in the USA; not even close. It's Mississippi, followed by Louisiana and New Mexico. California ranks about 20th. Most of the states that are worse than California are "red" states.

The video you referenced didn't even say that CA had he highest rate, just that it was higher than the national average. I guess you didn't watch it very closely.

Unfortunately, you can't change a thread title.

So let's change it to "Why does Pelosi's state have a 19% poverty level which is one of the highest in the USA?

California has the highest poverty rate if you factor in costs, especially of rents. Thread title is accurate.

It also has a whole bunch of the richest people in the world. It's a microcosm of America.

Weird how you link a federal official with a state statistic. The two arent related. Pelosi doesn't affect the state that much. But oh, right. Pelosi is one of your boogymen.

California has a lot of poverty because its expensive to live there, and its got large levels of inequality. Because tis where a LOT of wealthy folks live. And we keep lowering their taxes because Republicans believe it will trickle down. Or at least they claim that. So far its proven wrong, but in the meantime massive inequality drives massive poverty. Its pretty simple.

Thank you. I looked it up and CA does NOT have the highest poverty rate in the US, and while I couldn't easily find welfare recipients, for food stamps and such, again CA is NOT the highest.

Because CA has such a high population you can't go by how many, you have to get a percentage of the state population.
