Google can be used as a verb because of its common use as such.
There are other search engines, definitely.
#1 is Google- 1.6 billion users
#2 is Bing- 400 million users
#3 is Yahoo - 300 million users
You can add up the number of users for #2-10 and it comes up over 100 million short of the number of users for google. I don't know of anyone forced to use google. It became a monopoly by user choice.
