Why are you guys so ready to spend our money on a folly? And no, it will not pay for itself. The majority of illegal aliens do not come through the southern border. They fly in and stay.

No, you can't.

Pass the popcorn. Gonna be a long shutdown.

But the productive private sector will go on, uninterrupted.

The shutdown is all about rallying the morons. I suspect Trump will get spanked over it and they'll celebrate.

The Democrats have their bill ready to go. It's virtually the same one the Senate passed and Trump said he would sign. It was good enough before. It's good enough now. That's all Trump and the GOP are getting.

Since the country holds Trump responsible for this shutdown, the Democrats are in the catbird seat here. They have nothing to lose by waiting for the Republicans to finally, finally step up and do something.

And if they don't, it will be on them.

This bill won't even get a Senate vote.

Both parties have said a deal will pass, with border security billions, but less than 5 bill.

Until then, I will remain distraught (not) that the shutdown continues.

Why not? It passed the Senate once already. What has changed? Donnie threw a tantrum?

Yes, that's what changed.

The Senate would have passed the $5 bill wall bill, on a straight line basis, in Jan, 2013. I suspect they never intended to pass the same bill as the House with $0 for a wall. They wanted WH statement saying "No" to a $0 wall funding bill.

A deal can surely be reached, close to the midpoint of funding (a few bill border security).

Both sides have indicated that.

Until then, this is a big so what. USA has shutdowns every POTUS term. We survive just fine.

More likely the deal will be $1.7 billion, the number in the original bill. The one Trump said he would sign before he said he wouldn't.

After the shellacking they took in November, I would love to see the Republicans finally grow a pair and push back against Trump. Their future may depend on it. Time to get on the right side of history.
