I don't need to watch him glad handing his way down the aisle. Nor do I need to hear his bluster about the Dems and the wall. Besides I know the state of the union. And it's a pretty sorry state at that.

I don't watch if it is a Democrat or a Republican.

I hate the canned applause, the use of victims for political gains, hate it all.

I read the transcript once it is released to the press.

It's a joke. It's tacky -- it's crass, rude, brassy --- yes no matter who is President.
Trump would be smart to set it up basically like one of his rallies, but maybe a bit more formal with some reserved seating up front for Congresspeople and other bigwigs who wanted to attend. He could hold it in a swing state, in front of what will be mostly a highly partisan crowd. He could sell tickets if he wanted to and have the proceeds go to benefit Veterans job training or something.

He would have the networks televise it live as the State of the Union and then send the printed transcripts to Pelosi and whoever wanted a copy. It would thereby become the Constitutionally mandated State of the Union presentation.

This would be a lot more fun than what they normally do. And politically much more advantageous for Trump and the Republicans.

So, in that scenario, it would be both televised and in print.

With this president, print, definitely. That's the only way I ever "hear" anything he ever says. I refuse to listen to the lies in real time.

I would love to see them take the show away from him. Being the center of all that attention is what he lives for. Don't give it to him.

I was the same way with Obama. After watching his second state of the Union address, I either hit the mute button or changed the channel whenever he came on. I would not listen to him any more, the guy was such a relentless, unconscionable liar.

I think they should dump the SOTU altogether.

Save the paper make it a clickable link that you can select if you want. Offer two versions one with just the presidents speech only and the other with the other parties opinions. As an added bonus reel you can include all the commentary and opinions of the major news networks that no one wants to hear anyway..

I think that's exactly what he'll do.

Invitation only, and media by invitation only.

The SOTU in the constitution is more of a suggestion rather than a requirement. It used to be, some presidents didn't bother with it, at least not every year.

Trump's SOTU should be held at the border and families who have members killed by illegal immigrants should be invited.
