If there was a Nobel awarded for hypocrisy, the GOP'd be a shoe-in.
The hypocracy and greed in this country is disgusting.
They are all for welfare as long as it goes to them.
They are all for cheap illegal labor, just keep the ones that cost me money out of the country.
They are all for bailing out the banksters, everyone else is on their own.

Besides taking in government handouts going against their anti-govt stance, the handouts also undercut their favored economic system, capitalism, by providing guaranteed rates of return and eliminating the need to compete in a free market.

In 2017, the 10 states receiving the most farm subsidies were:

1. Texas
2. Nebraska
3. Kansas
4. Arkansas
5. Illinois
6. North Dakota
7. Indiana
8. Ohio
9. Georgia
10. South Dakota

https://farm.ewg.org/progdetail.php?...heUnitedStates

Almost all conservative states, except Illinois.

The state producing the most overall food in America? California, producing more than half of all fruits, vegetables, and nuts, while also being top producer of milk and the #4 producer of beef.

Conservatives are all too happy to bash any form of government handout, and are regularly talking about or putting together bills to cut government handouts. But when it comes to farm subsidies, they always want to kick the can down the road because they know taking government handouts away from red states would create major backlash and threaten their stronghold in the heartland.

Whats worse is that the majority of crops produced in the heartland are government subsidized and genetically modified corn, soybeans and wheat. A lot of what is produced taste horrible because it isn't grown to be eaten directly, but to be processed into ingredients for junk food (you can think of high fructose corn syrup as welfare sugar), ethanol, and non-food products. We also provide 40% of the world's corn supply, using taxpayer dollars to produce exports to other countries.

When you purchase food made cheaper by subsidy crops, you are essentially participating in a government welfare program, choosing cheaper foods due to government handouts over more expensive products produced in a free market manner. That includes eating beef fattened up by cheap corn and sweetened products that use high fructose corn syrup.

The next time you hear someone saying that the heartland feeds the nation, remember they rake in the most government subsidies and still don't produce anywhere near as much food as California.
Hey, I'm all for ending the farm bill. 80+% of the farm bill goes to fund food stamps and other fed gov free food programs for the poor, so end those, as well.

The aid goes to the corporatists rather than family farms.
Family farms do not have stocks on wall street but the corporate ones do.
Always follow the money.

Overhauling the Farm Bill: The Real Beneficiaries of Subsidies

It's one thing to support a family farmer. It's quite another to subsidize the expansion of a mega-farm that puts family farmers out of business.

If they plant too little and there is poor growing season they have a high value product but very little to sell. If they plant too much and have excellent growing season they have plenty of product to sell but it has little or no value. The subsidies allow them to overplant insuring an adequate food supply and low prices for consumers. Without the subsidies they plant less and you will have wild swings in food availability and prices. This of course would effect low income families the most.

Why do you hate the poor?
They agree in communist countries with you as well.
How did we make it before the free hand outs?

You all didn't seem to have a problem believing Trump when he accused Canada of dealing unfairly with U.S. dairy farmer's while they were being paid to overproduce and dumping their product in Canada while enjoying a dairy SURPLUS of trade with Canada.

Americans...perhaps not the stupidest bunch of morons on the planet, but gotta be number two fer sure.

The Farm Subsidy was created during the Great Depression when 25% of the population worked on farms. Today, 3 million legally work on farms.

Most farms are family- owned which does not mean small farms. The largest 15% of farms receive 85% of subsidies. Such subsidies are not means- tested.

Fruit and vegetable farms, California’s dominate crops are largely unsubsidized. Reportedly, corn and wheat farms receive the greatest subsidies. Surpluses are exported.

Americans consume more high fructose corn syrup than any other country. Consumption has doubled over the past 3 decades. 75% of us are overweight/ obese. Diabetes has trebled over the past 3 decades. The average cost to treat Diabetes and complications is approaching $10,000/ year.

There’s reasons why Big Corn, Big Food and Big Big Grocer lobbies work hard to ensure continued farm subsidies and eligibility of products with no nutritional value continue to be eligible for purchase with SNAP benefits.

Its more about politicians and their cronies helping each other to tax payer money.
