No, this is a terrible mistake. Trump is basically deciding to go around the United States system of government to get what he wants. That is not the way to govern.
I just hope the Trump supporters who are okay with Trump using a state of emergency to get what he wants remember this day...because if a Democratic president does the same thing in the future, you argument against if (if you disagree) will have no legs to stand on.
Trump is setting the precedent for future presidents to use declaring an emergency to get something they want if Congress won't give it to them. Trump supporters, remember this day.

Not really because it will never succeed, as the courts will not allow it, as this is clearly not an emergency. So in the end it will be a pointless waste of time and will not grow into a successful initiative to be emulated by future presidents.
So what Trump is really displaying here again, is his political naivete and an example of what not to do.
It’s funny seeing Trump play his base. When it fails he will be their cool parent who was okay with them eating junk food all the time but the mean parent said no.
I mean, sure why not? Obama used executive orders to pass whatever he wanted to pass so why should I have a problem with Trump working around the system to get what he wants passed?
Uh, see if you can get the drift - EO's are temporary...and are usually just "stays" on particular issues of other such things.
Also, Trump has signed roughly 4.27 executive orders in each month of his presidency predecessor, Barack Obama, signed roughly 2.9 per month.
Conservatives claim they don't like this:
"The Heritage Foundation has accused presidents of abusing executive orders by using them to make laws without Congressional approval"
So, in Summary, Trump has already abused the power at a rate 50% greater than Obama...but this is not an EO. It involved new law and new money. EO's are more or less "interpretive" based on existing law.
As I said - go ahead and do it. But don't complain when some future prog POTUS does it once a year. All the stuff Trump is doing is breaking new ground.
Without a doubt. If Trump thinks this bogus emergency declaration means his precious wall will begin to go up next month, he is in for a rude awakening.
