and other silly requests won't work as "national emergencies" because they will be challenged in the courts, and a conservative majority SCOTUS will shoot it down.

You know presidents have been declaring national emergencies since the 1970's. This isn't something unique that Trump is doing. The left is having a hissy fit, and it's amusing, but also a bit disturbing. If congress wasn't so dysfunctional there'd be no reason for national emergencies.
We can increase gun regulation (mandatory background checks, gun licensing, serial numbers on bullets) while still preserving the 2nd Amendment. Gun control is not gun confiscation.

What's unique is his ability to lie. Like he's doing now. He is signing the congressional compromise but still calling an emergency to please his base without any proof the wall will work and with polls against him on this issue
My priority would be as the poll options are listed.
If illegals crossing the border is a national issue, it should be no problem justifying one for gun violence. Far more Americans dies from gun violence than at the hands of illegals. I would think the POTUS, with expanded powers, should tackle this issue since congress has failed to act for decades. Toughen registration rules and mandate background checks. Immediately ban high capacity gun ownership for private citizens. It will not infringe on the 2nd amendment as citizens will still be allowed guns just being restricted to certain types. Give owners time to turn the guns in and pay them out the present worth. Send the military out to confiscate guns from owners that do not voluntarily comply.
Mandate national universal healthcare via the medicare for all option. Can come shortly after the banning of assault guns. Will take more time to implement and figure out where the money will need to taken from.
Institute policies that will slow climate change. Immediately ban the use of high pollution processes - including the burning of coal for energy. Redirect more transportation funds to mass transit in place of interstates. Mandate that so much energy must come from clean sources (wind, hydro, sun).
Since the nation seems poised to go down the road where the POTUS can sidestep congress, what do you think should be the FIRST national emergency priority for the next Democratic president. Given there are many serious issues, you may assume this emergency would not be the only one declared as the others would be expected to eventually follow suit.
Trump securing the border isn't violating the rights of Americans.
A President calling a national emergency on gun control is violating the 2nd amendment.......see you in court.
A President declaring a national emergency to push a national healthcare is violating the private sector and businesses. That's the government taking over the private sector.......again, see you in court.

Climate is a World Emergency. Gun Control is being taken care of now that the crooked NRA has been heeled Healthcare crisis is at the feet of the business es of soaking the sick and dying...that is an ethical crisis, and similar to the Immigration issues also not being solved due to businesses that make money on an illegal immigration racket...taking advantage of the downtrodden.
