First, it takes money to get into politics and win elections. And that is the problem because people who are money orientated are least likely to think about the well being of their fellow men and women who they are going to lead. The people that I have known that been into money-making have their thoughts on money(obviously) more than on the well being of others. That isn't to say that they aren't nice people it is just saying that their interests aren't on other peoples well being as much as it is on their profits. So the people in office leading us are all money makers and I believe a brick layer or house painter has more sensitivity about human needs than money makers. But that is the way it has always been(with exceptions) and will probably always be.

well that is one point of view, if you are extremely liberal and think that the government owns the money and they just let the people use it from time to time.

The previous Uruguayan president is a nice exception from the rule:

"He has been described as "the world's humblest head of state" due to his austere lifestyle and his donation of around 90 percent of his $12,000 monthly salary to charities that benefit poor people and small entrepreneurs."

Psychopaths are great at faking competence and expertise, but they tend to be lower-performers and generally incompetent. Many politicians are psychopaths. They wear a convincing mask of sanity and are socially very charming and charismatic. They have a lot of people believing they are something they are really not. Basically they only care about themselves and are full of ****.

We need term limits on Congress and on bureaucrats. Senators should be restricted to two terms and House members to 3 terms. Bureaucrats should also be restricted to ten years.

I think it increases the further up you go. Local politicians are often quite OK.

Same with managers by the way, many top managers of big companies are psychopaths, there are various studies on that. Maybe ambition is tied to psychopathy.

Also judges. Nobody should be appointed for life in this country in this day and age.

So you think that construction people aren't interested in making money? If you think they're only interesting in acting ethically and altruistically, I know a few contractors and plumbers I'd like you to meet.

While there are certainly bad actors in politics, it's not just about "sensitivity." As a matter of fact, most construction people would be incapable of coping with politics, if you look at how many can't even juggle their own commitments and respond to customers, and have only the narrowest expertise.

With very, VERY few exceptions, only sociopaths choose to enter government, because only sociopaths wish to rule over other people.
