Some are more blind to science than others.
Quote:
U.S. racial and ethnic groups vary significantly in their knowledge of science-related issues, according to a new Pew Research Center survey that quizzed Americans about subjects ranging from life and physical sciences to numeracy and chart reading.
About half of whites (48%) got at least nine of 11 questions correct. In comparison, much smaller shares of Hispanics (23%) and blacks (9%) correctly answered at least nine of the questions.

Take the quiz yourself here:

https://www.pewresearch.org/science/...nowledge-quiz/

It's very easy, and only 11 questions long but, I think, a pretty good measure of all-around basic science literacy. The question with the biggest racial disparity was the last one:

Quote:
A car travels at a constant speed of 40 miles per hour. How far does the car travel in 45 minutes?
Amazingly, only 57% of all quiz takers got this right, including just 66% of whites, 46% of Hispanics and 23% of blacks.

Interesting. I took the quiz. Not sure if this link will show my result or not. But I figured I'd post it just the same. If it doesn't show, let me just say I answered 11 of 11 correctly. However, I did not get asked for my ethnicity at the end of the quiz, so I'm guessing the statistics are the results of a previous test cycle. I noticed that "men" outscored "women" on every question. I also noticed the results were the same down the board concerning ethnicity.

10 out of 11 but one of their questions was incorrect so I will give myself a perfect score.

All the questions are multiple choice from 4 possibilities, so picking at random would result in an average of 2.75 correct answers out of 11. Black people without a college degree got 3.2 answers correct on average. 80% of America's black population lacks a college degree.

You are not using your brain power to ponder scientific questions when you're poor.
