Your statement is very true...BUT!! Let's be honest, within many of those Red States, most, not all, but a good percentage of the larger cities within these States are controlled by Democrats and it's been that way for decades.
I live in the metro Seattle area and the homeless have basically destroyed the entire city where I was born and raised. Our useless mayor and equally useless city council, which proudly proclaim that they're Progressive Democrats, with one odd-ball Socailist have failed the tax payers for years and years even after raising most every tax possible, like adding an extra tax/surcharge on the sales of firearms of all types, as well as on ammunition regardless of caliber AND taxing sodas and most types of fruit juices. No matter how much the tax us, nothing ever changes and the homeless issue simply gets worse as each year goes by.
Seattle has gotten so bad, that the people, both liberals and conservatives are no longer buying the standard BS propaganda the city elected leadership have been pushing. The mayor was basically elected a year ago, but many on the city council are in trouble, with several not running again since they know that they're done. They have laughed in the faces of concerned citizens, which was caught on video and wouldn't even stop texting on they're smart phones long enough to even look at another citizen at a different event when he attempted to voice his concerns about the direction the city is heading in.

Denver, like many large cities, are facing the same challenges that we're facing here in Seattle. Let's be honest, the politicians WANT to make this into Left verse Right issue, so we, the people, will move to our Left or Right sides of the argument lines AND get side tracked in our own beliefs, which allows our elected officials to get off the hook for being responsible for anything.
If we, the people care about our cities, towns and other communities, we need to stop this stupid a** fighting amongst ourselves and starting holding our elected officials responsible for their failures. If we can simply unite on this one cause, I think there is a strong chance that we can take on this problem and put a big dent in it. Which is better than doing nothing. It took us years to get to this point and it will take years to get it back under control again. Also, we need to accept that their will always be a number of individuals who simply want to stay homeless. In this case, hold them responsible for their crimes and civil violations and be very firm on were they can and can't camp. And if they fail to clean up after themselves, which is another violation, lock them up AND hold them responsible for their poor actions
Again, it's not a Left verse Right, Black/Brown verse White, Trump verse Pelosi, etc...
Btw, Seattle was always a democrat stronghold, but this progressive liberalism has gone way too far. It's no longer the democrat party that looked after the working man and woman.
Amen. My hometown of Bellingham wants to be just like Seattle. Mayoral candidate says Bellingham is for everyone. Some advocates say that zoning is racist and classist. And, another told homeowners that they are privileged. We had better wake up before we descend into a socialist nightmare. I hope Denver voters defeat Initiative 300. It is an ill conceived measure that will solve nothing.

I've noted many times that solutions that are never going to happen are not solutions. I will suggest possible solutions that can happen but then you will fall back on your generalizations.
I am thinking of a massive low rise apartment complex in a nice suburban area. About 5 years ago, it was acquired by an investment fund that made the business decision to form an alliance with the behavioral health department of a local hospital. It now houses a majority of mentally/ emotionally disabled tenants with rents paid by a combination of federal and state funds. They are able to walk to outpatient facilities at the hospital.
There’s a nice park in the area with a huge playground. The disabled monopolize the park with their presence.
Schizophrenia is the most common disability. Presumably, all are medicated crept many choose not to take their medications. What was once decent housing for self paying renters, now has turned into public areas where feces is common. Someone or another is always going off the rails and Police are involved. The sounds, TVs, music and screaming, are deafening.
Come summer, the drama moves to the outdoor pool. Alcohol flows. People openly smoke medical marijuana. Fights ensue. Poop is tossed about. Someone sets a fire. And life goes on.
My point here is that you can take some of the people off the streets and when you do, their issues don’t go away. Medication, taken as directed, MAY reduce symptoms. And maybe, not.
It is obviously cheaper to house these sick people in private properties than an institution with around the clock supervision and security.
The property values of the nice single family homes in the area have declined as the number of disabled tenants in this complex has increased. Most buyers don’t want to put their families in close proximity to several hundred disabled people, when they can buy elsewhere.
Sad that some people prefer to view homelessness through a partisan lens.
We can't institutionalize people to keep property values propped up. I was around when people argued something very similar to keep blacks out of their neighborhoods.

My realistic prediction:
10-20 years from now this will be so bad nationwide that even the leftists will be so angry that we will build concentration camps or something in the desert and be done with it. Scary things happen when millions become furious at a small percentage of the population....and the blood will be on the hands of every leftist who refused to crack down on this now.
There have been complaints by business owners about sidewalk homeless here but the city cannot pursue because ACLU has warned them. And they win these cases. Hands are tied.
How much more in local taxes are you willing to spend to imprison homeless people indefinitely in public or private institutions?
Divert funds from the homeless industrial complex first, that adds up to billions for legitimate prisions.
If more money is needed after that, I’m open to paying additional property tax, funding prisions...contingent on a guarantee of zero homeless encampments within 15 miles of my residence.
