Not. At. All.

The nearly universal view of law enforcement, however, is that the obstruction statute prohibits all attempted self-serving interference with government investigations or proceedings. Thus, as Georgetown Professor Neal Katyal recently pointed out, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was convicted of obstruction for interfering with an investigation of his extramarital affair, even though the affair was lawful.

The professor is wrong.
Kilpatrick was convicted under Michigan State statutes, not federal statutes.
There's a difference between State and federal statutes and apparently the Georgetown University professor is too damn stupid to figure that out, or he's intentionally spewing propaganda and disinformation.
Also, the obstruction charge did not stem from the affair, rather it stemmed from the fact that Kilpatrick committed perjury under Michigan State law, for which he was also convicted.
The "esteemed" professor is wrong further still, because the perjury charges were levied due to the fact that Kilpatrick perjured himself in a
civil lawsuit filed in Michigan State court.
Kilpatrick fired his bodyguard and the police chief.
The bodyguard and the police chief then filed a lawsuit in Michigan State civil court under a Michigan statute for whistle-blowers.
The jury awarded the bodyguard and police chief $Millions in damages.
Kilpatrick threatened to appeal, but as soon as he discovered there was evidence to convict him and his lover of perjury for the false statements they made in their depositions and during the trial, he attempted to settle the lawsuit and then use a non-disclosure agreement to hide the fact that he and his lover had committed perjury and he was using city tax-payer money in the settlement.
So, that lying sack of **** Georgetown professor needs to be fired.
