turns out at least one lawmaker is convinced teachers will start haphazardly gunning down unarmed black students.

Quote:
After about seven hours of angry, sometimes deeply painful debate about race and gun violence that spanned two days, the Florida House passed a bill Wednesday that would allow classroom teachers to be armed, expanding a program lawmakers created last year after the Parkland shooting.

The debate reached emotional heights that had Democrats shouting or tearing up as black lawmakers delved into details about their personal experiences with racism and their deep-seated fears about minority children being targeted by teachers who have guns.

Good, a "common sense" gun bill.

Now it's time to arm Crossing Guards, School Bus Drivers, Sports Coaches and every one of the 100's of possible venues where school...or OTHER human beings may congregate.......

One CD poster actually started a thread something like "why would any sane shooter walk into a armed school"?

Even if we stretched our fantasies that far, we'd then...with about the logic of a child...think "Well, said shooter would simply go the Botanical Garden, Museum, Bus Stop or one of hundreds of other venues where he knows school buses roll up each and every day.

Let's see....a "sane" shooter just parks his PU truck across a thin road he knows the School Bus travels down each day....then he has a captive audience.

Sorry to say, many of you aren't thinking this through even that far. In fact, alternative scenarios would usually be MUCH worse than a concrete block school building with smaller spaces inside.

this is a move in the right direction. NO, it isn't going to stop all school shootings but if it stops one, it is worth it.

I'm interested to see how this all pans out over a course of a few years. If crime and mayhem drastically declines at that school, we will then be confirmed doing this does in fact work. At the current moment that is most of our theories, but it will be nice to actually have proof that it does.

There are several schools in the US that have had armed faculty for several years. None have had shootings. Is that why? No one knows. But it sure has not hurt anything.

The down fall of civilized American society has begun. The gun nuts would rather have our schools become armed encampments than ban assault style weapons and stricter gun legislation preventing the mentally ill from owning guns in the first place.
They think every gun control measure is a effort to eradicate guns which is far from the truth.
Thank God I don't have any children to send to schools here.

Contrary to your hyperbole you can have both firearms of any type and a safe society

You do this by focusing on motive incentive and intent.
Revoking the incentive addresses the other 2.
Once heinous scumbags start being put down like rabid dogs the moment they brandish/shoot the message will be loud and clear. Your attempts to instill fear? Your attempts at destroying the nation by getting lemmings on board with banning firearms are over.

We've seen what gun free schools have given. It hasn't prevented thwarted or decreased the severity of homicidal scumbags.

And you're wrong in your assessment. We would rather see people stop being victims and allowed their rights to defend themselves and their fellow Americans. Be they students in a school, worshipper in house of prayer, etc.

You can't keep being reliant and hoping for a sign and law to stop evil or waiting on help. Time to go back to being land of the free and home of the brave. Not land of the lemming and home of regulated.

I've argued for teachers/school staff to be armed following my first lock down drill in highschool.
I have remained consistent in believing rights don't end simply because a few lemmings can't think but feel their initiative works.

Nor are rights open to compromise for so very few not being able to be trusted with them.

Y'all have no qualms with fighting for restricting a constitutional right. Shame you wouldn't stand up to the heinous with the same consistency and veracity...
