Going to Mars is truly a waste of money. Humans won't ever live on Mars, other than a few potential astronauts getting there before they die there. Not sure why Trump thinks Mars is a good idea to spend money on.
"President Donald Trump formally announced last night that he is sending Americans back to the moon.
Nearly half a century after the last human being set foot on the lunar surface in 1972, Mr Trump said the moon would be used as a stepping stone to a Mars landing.
He signed "Space Policy Directive 1" which ordered NASA to "lead an innovative space exploration programme to send American astronauts back to the Moon, and eventually Mars".
As he signed the directive at the White House, with Buzz Aldrin present, Mr Trump said: "We will not only plant our flag and leave our footprints, we will establish a foundation for an eventual mission to Mars, and perhaps some day to many worlds beyond."
Does anyone really expect trump to keep steady on anything?
What has you confused?
In both instances, Trump has said the moon is the gateway to Mars... NASA agrees.
Because he's right. We have enough moon rocks; going to the moon for the sake of going to the moon is pointless.
Time to focus on getting to Mars.
NASA never said we are going to the moon just to do it. They say it is PART of a Mars Mission
But now you are arguing that he is saying we shouldn't be going to the moon? Didn't you just say two posts ago that the president says we are going to the moon in both instances? Something he himself JUST TODAY contradicted? You're as bad as he is.
“The directive I am signing today will refocus America’s space program on human exploration and discovery,” said President Trump. “It marks a first step in returning American astronauts to the Moon for the first time since 1972, for long-term exploration and use. This time, we will not only plant our flag and leave our footprints -- we will establish a foundation for an eventual mission to Mars, and perhaps someday, to many worlds beyond.”"

So he changed his mind mid-sentence? We shouldn't be going to the Moon, but to Mars, although going to the Moon is part of going to Mars? Incoherent stream-of-consciousness typing.
Anyway, he's not wrong in one particular - revisiting the Moon is kinda silly. (If that is what he's saying, Lord only knows.) Of course, using NASA as a jobs program for the Shuttle supply chain and not as the cutting-edge agency it used to be will keep us firmly in LEO, anyway.
Why doesn’t Trump use words and concepts that make sense?

Now you're just being willfully obtuse.
Going to the moon is not the question... it's the goal of future missions to the moon that is key..
He's talking about the NASA mission to Mars, 2020 I think. Does he have to spell everything out.
God, no. I don’t want him to bust a blood vessel. I’d settle for coherent sentences and ideas.
