Since the 80s conservatives have said free trade is always good and Friedman's disciples have said its a 'democratizing' force.

It was all lies, US corporations desperate for cheap labor (since profit is all that matters to US policy makers) bought into China's supply chain of cheap labor, open state run ports, and reliable delivery.

Americans bought it all up even though it destroyed our local communities and ran small shops out of business (those that don't have access to the Chinese run system).

We became a service economy reliant on foriegn capital in China and the third world, promoting mass urbanization and traffic congestion across the country. Americans lost control over their own credit stream, the stock market boomed, and high expense American labor was left to rot.

Now the only thing we have left is cheap migrant labor to man our farm land since our expected production speed has grown ten fold. Americans have grown extremely materialistic only affording processed food, obesity rates skyrocket, healthcare costs exploded.

And for what? So that now conservatives can talk about how 'free' we are and liberals can say how great 'diversity' is?

And now security threats have allowed China to pressure US citizens and our government is too dependent to act; their tax revenue comes from corporate investment, and they need the Chinese supply chain to bring home the liquidated capital. AOC, Pelosi, Trump, McConnell, it doesn't matter who, they are hopeless to act because our debt economy is run by off-shored labor and capital.

We don't have local supply chains our consumer production, and all has increased waste as Americans now on average produce waste far above the global average.

All environmentalists have to say is use green energy, but no one can accept the one real answer: lower consumption.

That can't be allowed since 70% of our gdp is based in consumption, and all US social programs (the last thing upholding crumbling neighborhoods and families) need the revenue stream.

Our leaders are frauds and failures, this is not a democrat or republican situation. And the National Review has been the biggest perpetrator of the Reagan lie, and Obama and Clinton enforced it further.

These success stories like Gates of Jobs are not heroes, they make their wealth from stock value; value that is derived from foriegn production and off shored programming.

They aren't the people your kids should look up to, if they want to rebuild this country they must look to basic ventures like fishing, farming (none factory oriented), shop owners, manufacturers, craft works and the needs of local capital, not global work. Everyone doesn't need to have a car, a television, or a washing machine. If jobs weren't centralized into commute areas we wouldn't need a car for everyone, and people can use cloths lines and entertain themselves by playing a board game, or talking. It would make us better people, it will make our connections strong again, and it would mean we needn't rely on on massive international supply chains controlled by corporations and monitored by China. And it would mean we consume less.

The schools and IV league institution produce the false stories of greatness to students about global workforce and education that have left students with overpriced bills that are then use to reimburse college investment portfolios increasing the value of corporate executives who sold our country out giving our government more reliance on their funds.
These same schools now staff think tanks and NGOs that praise global investment in the Christianized terms of 'poverty reduction' that defend the Chinese lead system as cooperation for a better world.

What is a better world? One where capital is run by global efficiency and all average producers are left on government welfare? That is no way to run a society, that is no way to keep America safe or functioning.

I don't care if you are left or right or a moderate, this is unacceptable. The 'normal' our leaders have set for us is unacceptable. They lied. Bush lied, Obama, Reagan lied, even Carter.

But they are not America, and we can't accept it.

How ironic that almost 200 years ago, the British and later the Americans brutalized China in the name of free trade. You can go see the ruins of the Summer Palace right outside Beijing. Lol.

Old news? maybe.

But the article is new and now even Washington elite are starting to regret their decision since the Chinese government has used it to compete with US interests.

I'm more concerned with Americans as a whole, but its telling that the initial coalition of global partnership organizations now regret handing over production capacities to China.

I don't care about them, but its noteworthy nonetheless. But they can't change because they need the money, it will be interesting to see how things develop from here.

All I will say is that people need to differentiate their interests from those of political and business leaders that run the country.

The USA will be the first nation in history to give away it’s superpower status to a rival for the sake of short-term profits.

If your goal in life is to pick fruit or attach soles to tennis shoes globalization has not been good for you.

It’s been great for me.

We need to allow foreign workers to care for our elderly too. Take the burden off of stressed families. We are too protectionist.

Mercantilism is a failed idea. Trade deficits benefit the USA.

Its just the tip of the iceberg for me.

Jobs have been transferred to commute areas, residential and work areas have been permanently separated, and community employment/worker loyalty is gone.

Now financiers and 'globalized' labor run our service economy as all our production capacity has been moved overseas. And why? Because some leaders looked at a spreadsheet and thought lower costs equal higher profits.

Having jobs near you, being able to stay and live where you were born, knowing the people you work with, making things that people use, that is the nature of society.

We could have small farmers, lighthouse keepers, fishers, shoe makers, paper producers, and our own industrial base that is clean and treats workers well.

Instead we have big city economics were all the jobs are centralized, production is off-shored, and meaning is now to become rich.

Look at Houston, see all the traffic you have to deal with, the lack of access, the strip malls, where are the local shops and community that held society? Is that what you want?

The Bush Family, The Clintons, Joe Biden, Obama, John McCain, you name it they all did.

Trump is the first national politician to actually try and address it.
