I'd say career politicians - they are too worried about keeping the money in their own pockets than doing the job they were elected to do. That's why I welcomed Trump and any new comers that aren't off their rocker but it doesn't take long before they become jaded and act like the rest of them. That's why I believe in term limits.
Party loyalists. Their blind loyalty has led to lowering the bar so the dregs are elected with a base of loyalists who will defend them no matter what they do.
The ever-growing gap between the rich and poor. The increasing gulf between the rich and poor seems to be swallowing the middle class. If it continues it will lead to unrest and revolution. Ask the French royalty how that one turned out!
We elect some pretty dumb people that are economically and scientifically illiterate.
Then we have a media....that also falls in the same category. Since they don’t understand the issues of the day...they focus on politics.
So you get this 24/7 focus on politics and little discussion of the issues.
There are NO news programs on TV, anymore. Really little news in radio or the print media, outside of couple of publications.
I did ask friends in the media about writing articles written by subject matter experts on various issues. No interest in having articles written by people that really understand the subject.
I would say the party system.
There should be no party at all, dem, repub, lib, green etc.
People should be voted in on their merits, and nothing else.
When there is no party affiliation, congress would be voting on the will of the representatives of the people, not the crazy whims of some political party.
Also need to require all laws passed to apply to them, like healthcare.
