Be assured that the nanny-state people will ignore your sage advice about simply not using them if they don't want to. Because NO ONE should be able to use them if they don't.

Yes, that was one source I found. Other sources I've researched since your post state between 10-20 years for certain types of trees, so thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

But my point still stands. Substitute 10-20 years versus under four months for hemp and hemp still is a much cheaper, more renewable source than wood.

BTW I am a proponent of Hemp, paper, noodles, candy, or any other renewable products that don't have to be shipped half way around the world.

Responding to the OP, I don't "have a problem with straws."

despite having no use for them, i also have no problem with them. i just don't use 'em. i eat milkshakes with a spoon.

this whole straw thing is a tempest in a teapot.

I am in awe of the liberals at how quickly they can force their luny policies down people's throats. Just a few appearances on the network news and every city and municipality in the country pass ordinances against using plastic straws. Just had a Slurpee with one of those paper straws and the damn thing didn't even last halfway.

Typical liberal: "I don't like straws, and therefore I demand they be banned. I do like hemp products, and therefore I demand they be mandated for all!"

Indeed. If there was anything wrong with plastic straws there wouldn`t be millions of them in the ocean.

It's not just liberals, it's any thinking person. Anyone who cares about what this plastic straw (and plastic take out containers, and styrofoam coffee cups) are doing to America. This is our country, let's try to keep it clean. I don't even use a straw in a restaurant. A glass of ice water doesn't require a straw, never did. And soda isn't good for you--everyone knows that. So...anyone with common sense will get away from this excess plastic pollution. Republicans too, they are not dummies, you know.

They certainly are being addressed. These cities have completely or partially banned Styrofoam.

We all think "any thinking person" would agree with us on any issue. We form our opinions through thought. Saying "any thinking person" would agree with you is as useless as saying you support "reasonable gun control". There's not a person in the country who thinks they support unreasonable gun control and there's not a person anywhere who thinks no thought went in to their opinions.
