Yeah you cant do what epstein did for so long and under everyones noses without having the right connections. And then when those same powerful connections think your gonna roll on them, a supermax prison isnt safe enough.
Heck, I read a book a long time ago about the killing of Pablo Escobar, and the DEA kept on saying they would have had him a long time ago if it wasn't for the CIA tipping him off whenever the DEA was near, or getting court orders to get the DEA to back off, or even have agents dismissed from their duties. It was never truly revealed why the CIA protected the guy so much, most of the time it was because they claim he was helping their fight against communists, but others think, with Escobar's mass network of elite connections, they CIA was using his networks to spy on those connections. Maybe even set up some people they wanted to bring down via the war on drugs.
