Collateral damage on the way to maintaining a free society no different than the dead students that result when an errant drone hits their school over there in attempts to fight terrorism here.
Mistakes will be made, our govt keepers are human.

Why ask us? Go ask the people who make up the definition of mass murder.

But I get the feeling this "poll" is really a straw man for something else, likely having to do with why some guy, usually white, shooting up a mall gets more front page press than black guys killing each other in the 'hood.

Your poll is flawed.

The correct answer is: "It depends".

It would be the rare "drive by" that results in mass casualties since the entire purpose of driving is to be on your escape run before the victims mates recover from the immediate shock and fire back. It is the basic fighter pilot tactics.

As for mass casualties are we just counting numbers be it the random guy in the tower shooting at any human or the Nazis attacking a Jewish pre school or does the potential victims being combatants as in a Crips set driving by a Bloods set count in how we see the problem and our community response to it.

Depends on what? If the intent is to incur mass casualties, does it matter how many people are actually murdered?

Define “mass.”

Depends on who is doing it. Some are saying three shot, some four.

Good question. Those lone wolves who sit near the highways shooting at cars and killing people like snipers--are they serial killers or mass killers?

The poll is flawed on a number of counts. First, the title is worded wrong -- "Are drive by shootings mass murders?" As others have pointed out, a shooting and a murder are entirely different things. Now maybe we're just liberal snowflakes (according to another thread) because we're bringing up what is in effect a grammar error. But yur poll would make more sense and could be taken more seriously if you had worded it correctly --

Are drive by killings mass murder?

And the obvious answer has been typed a number of times already. The FBI defines mass murder as the murder of four or more people at one time. So if a drive by shooting results in four or more deaths (other than the shooter) then, yes, it is a mass murder. Not sure why you'd wonder otherwise.

My understanding is that a serial killer is one who kills his victims over a longer period of time than someone who sits on an overpass and shoots people. I'm pretty sure where being an avid fan of "Criminal Minds" has finally paid off for me
