The statistics/demographics information comes directly from Wikipedia, unless Trump supporters think Wikipedia is fake news. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Greenland

I bet you a large amount of money that Trump probably thought (and still thinks) that Greenland is a "white" country. But in reality, only 12% (barely 1 in 10) of Greenland is white.

There are many different reasons why demographics haven't yet been discussed.

1) Some people don't know much about Greenland at all. Greed is likely the #1 reason some people want Greenland. It is mainly about "We're America and we're the biggest, baddest country in the world". In short, ego issues.
2) Some who know about Greenland know that statistic. Some people likely look down on the people who live in Greenland. It could be that those who know about the demographics, and likely get off on the old colonial "take over the non-white areas and rule them".

Not exactly a nuanced picture, that one. Denmark was a colonial power over Greenland and acted as absolute bastards in a lot of respects, but there's a fair understanding these days. Of course we pay for conditions to be acceptable, seems only fair. Yes, it's expensive. And of course some resentment still harbors.

Not sure why that makes Trump's behavior any less idiotic.

President Trump could send troops to Greenland to secure our military interests as well as protect the local population from pernicious foreign elements who are in residence. We could initiate an investigation into the mysterious disappearance of the Icelandic Christian settlement during the late medieval period.

Greenland is not in Europe; it is part of North America. Paying the Danes for what is naturally ours is unnecessarily gracious. Let the Danish imperialists return to Denmark; let the Inuits return to Canada.

I was trying to get said person to think rationally. The point I was driving home was this. Said person is claiming that Greenland hates Denmark. What makes that person think the USA would be better?

Denmark could easily just tell Thule Air Base to leave. Remember, that air base is on Denmark's territory, not ours. And I don't think the local population is having any problems from "pernicious foreign elements".

You could investigate the disappearance of the Icelandic settlemnt now. You'd need Denmark's permission though. And I figure you don't like that.

Greenland isn't part of the European continent. However, who is to say that the Greenlandic people would want to be part of the USA? How about you let the Greenlandic people make that decision for themselves. Something else. The Inuits in Greenland are native to Greenland. And if we purchase Greenland, we would be just as imperialist as the Danish that you're accusing.

Really...we could simply take it from them if we truly wanted to. Heck our military alone is like the size of their entire population.

Okay, I have my opinions on this. But I want to hear the words from YOUR perspective. Do you want Trump to buy Greenland, and why do you want him to buy it? Is it even necessary to buy Greenland?

We already have an air force base in greenland. Its our northern most base and the most important or close to it on the path of ICBMs launched from russia toward us. Thats what this is all about. Read about Thule Air force base and its history.
