A state like California or NY is basically trying to emulate Sweden or Denmark. But here on CD California and NY are incessantly accused of being "socialist" by the right wingers. Those same right wingers are incessantly accusing many of the democratic POTUS candidates of being "socialist" for - GASP! - advocating policies like one sees in Sweden and Denmark.
But then some time later one of them comes around and, not willing to grapple with the contradiction between their perception that policies like one sees in Sweden and Denmark are what they otherwise call "socialist" and the fact that both those other countries are very successful, they attempt to avoid that contradiction altogether and tell us that, No! Sweden isn't socialist!
Well then, if Sweden and Denmark aren't socialist, then we can go ahead and establish policies such as found in those two nations, and we won't become "socialist."
Got it? You can't have it both ways: If espousing policies such as those found in Sweden and Denmark is "socialist," then Sweden and Denmark are themselves "socialist."
Or if Sweden and Denmark aren't "socialist" then emulating their policies and programs also isn't "socialist."
The Right is nothing if not consistent. If anyone in the USA dares want the good things that any other advanced nations have, some echo chambers spread around that those places are not like you think...and you should be happy with less and your low wages and debt and no health care because, after all, you can have guns and stuff and they (other countries ) aren't real socialists.
Basically, the Right is running scared thinking that maybe the middle class might get some stuff which they deserve. All types of things threaten the Right - solar panels, electric cars, efficiency (remember how hard they fought for 100watt incandescent bulbs) and decent wages and benefits.
This is in addition to their long list of other boogeymen like Islam, Jews, Blacks, Hispanics and most everyone else.
It's hard to put myself in a mindset where I wish such suffering on most everyone else. Who wakes up in the morning and thinks "I want to breathe more pollution so I am glad we have Trump?". But...yes, people do.
Sweden is successful because it is 95% Christian white. The number one indicator of a nations success is race. Whites made Iceland work of all places.
So secularism is also the same? As you well know the success of such places is largely after they threw out the church and Odom and stuff. All of Europe is quite Secular.
What you fail to mention is basic enlightenment. Surely you know that the warring tribes in Switzerland met 500 years back and decided not to fight?
"The beginnings of Swiss neutrality can be dated back to the defeat of the Old Swiss Confederacy at the Battle of Marignano in September 1515"
Read the entire history - their wars were DUE TO RELIGION (Catholic vs. Protestant)...until they decided not to.
Scandinavian countries are the exact opposite of what conservatives think is good policy. Anywhere in the world where quality of life measurements are rated highly you see an active government. No place around the world do you see small government working.
The definition of socialism is collective ownership of the means of production. Sweden doesn't have that.
And neither is it what Sanders and AOC are advocating.
Please show us ONE video clip where Sanders or AOC are actually saying they want to collectivize the means of production.
